The UK [& US] has been accused of failing its children, as it comes bottom of a league table for child well-being across 21 industrialised countries.
Unicef looked at 40 indicators from the years 2000-2003 including poverty, family relationships, and health.

One of the report's authors told the BBC that under-investment and a "dog-eat-dog" society were to blame for Britain's poor performance.

That suggests then that that's a good environment for children to grow up in then. That, or all the other countries are even worse.

One thing you start to notice when looking at demographics throughout the world is that, typically, the more religious and socially conservative countries have the biggest skeletons in their closet when it comes to family life and crime.

It's no surprise to me that America would rank where it is.  Then again, we are much larger than every other country on that list, and we have much more open immigration policies than the other countries listed.  I don't want to sound racist here, but a lot of the reason for our low ranking could be connected to heavy immigration from Mexico.

Agreed. I graduated high school with a 4.7 GPA and the IB Diploma. The lowest ranked in my graduating class were all minorities.

i think alot of our low rankings is the fact that the good kids try and learn and get on with their life, but then theres the bad asshole kids which there is alot of here, so it makes the good kids very unhappy.
too many gangs or whatever here makes the normal peoples life a total misery, which is what it was like in my last village..sorta, but where i live now is great with alot of wealthy retired people and kids that actually achieve good things around this area

People in not so well off countries like Eastern European countries have something to strive for, theres nothing to motivate the retards in England, especially the fucking chavs. If i took over the first people to go would be them, i dont care if you are poor so are thousands of other people yet they manage not to be ass holes that bring down this country.

It's a 4.7 weighted by IB courses. I left high school with about a year's worth of college credit just from IB.

Yeah, I could do the same had I chosen to study in the US. Sadly, it's far more than I can afford.
I don't mean to piss on your fireworks or anything, but 4.7 isn't that impressive. I'd say that's a fairly average grade in the IB. Still, whatever you get, it's a pretty damn hard diploma.

Yeah, in my area, we have Honors (which I was in), AP, and IB.

AP and IB both earn college credits with a high enough score in the class and final exams.

IB is pretty hard from what I hear, so I give you mad props, Fancy...

The reason they dont have any motivation is because they are being fed and housed by our goverment hence the name "welfare" state. If you don't work you get paid 80 pounds every 2 weeks if you sign to the dole and then ive even heard the line from girls when i was in Secondary school say " I might have baby just so i can get free council house" thats when you know its bad. They dont have any insentive, im mean 40 pound doesn't seem much but they also pay certain things for you or don't pay for fullstop when on the dole. Ive seen alot that get money other ways on top with illegal off the books work either selling drugs, or just doing a job cash in hand just commiting benefit fraud, then theres stealing because they know when they will get caught they will only get 6 months max and even if its reoffended its mad the law sometimes.

Having said that for people signing on legitmately i dont mind for like a few months between work or whatever but somepeople are on it 10 or 15 years its insane they clearly by that point they aern't going to get a job are, its blatant DONT GIVE THEM IT ANYMORE OR HELP THEM.

Sad story, but some great points.  This is a lot of the reason why I tend to be economically conservative.  Welfare is an issue that must be dealt with very carefully.  Thankfully, we haven't gone in the U.K.'s direction on that one.
