because it's classified. it's standard practice not to admit that anything that's classified actually exists.
Classified ? its an outrage !
the last blue on blue in Iraq 1991 was gung ho USA planes killing 11 Brits in desert .
No "classified" cover up then ? why ? - because no BLAIR & GW BUSH then

Officials wanted it classified until they could finish analyzing the video. They released it when they were finished.
What ? after FOUR YEARS ??????????Sgt_Sieg wrote:

I have known about this for some time, as I took the UK forces contact report and sitrep for this engagement on 28th March, 2003 as it happened, some 30 miles from my CP location. My log of the convo was impounded pending enquiry.
The guy seen on the video removing casualties is Tpr Chris Finney, Blues & Royals Recce Sqn, I went to ACF with this guy before we joined up, and know him well. After his actions in this attack, he was awarded the George Cross, for Military Gallantry (not in the face of the enemy).
Needless to say, Chris was casevac'd within the hour, sustaining moderate injury. It was his first time out of the country with the Army, and he was sent home by the Yanks.
At this point, I do not know the outcome of the investigation totally, only that the pilots in question didn't get much more flying done during Op Telic/Iraqi Freedom.

that's rubbish, officals denied the video existed at all when the inquiry asked to be supplied with it - however the Scum, sorry, I mean Sun got their hands on a copy..Sgt_Sieg wrote:

The "officials" here denied that this video existed - BASTARDS
Told the poor dead soldiers family there was no evidence - BASTARDS
Four years and it takes a newspaper to reveal the truth and prove a cover up?
HEADS need to roll.

There was a full length documentary being made on this in late 2004, but due to poor cooperation from the US military, it got canned.
Under the UK's new FOI (Freedom of Information) as soon as the security caveat expires, (5 years normally) all information can be requested, however publishing the detailed report may not be possible.

Friendly Fire makes me sick, those pilots and the ground control should be fried..... His fucking wing man was even saying,"I see orange pannels on the vehicals". When I was in Iraq we had to put orange air panels on all our vehicals to mark them friendly from aircraft. That video was somone worried about getting kills, shit they weren't even taking ground fire, that should have been the first clue, and second the ORANGE FUCKING AIR PANELS!!!
edit: I'm American and a Vet and I think that this is wrong

Impounded pending enquiry? It sounds like a cover-up, but apparently The Sun only got the video from a leaked source in the US military, but the fact that the defence council didn't want to release the tapes until AFTER they had edited.....I mean analyzed them, has gotta mean something has been goin on...... has anyone actually heard them? I caught the tailend of one, where a pilot can be heard saying, 'I'm gonna be sick,' 'God, we're goin to jail'..............Penetrator_01 wrote:

Watched the footage on the news this morning. I feel for the guy who died. But also for the pilots. You hear them clearly ask are any friendlies in front of us. They are told no, so engage. Shortly after the radio tells them its Blue on Blue and someone is dead. One pilot starts to cry and the other is sick.
These things happen in war, but that is the line that should have been taken from the off and it should have been admitted straight away. This kind of footage would have put the British ppl even more against the war. So it had to be covered up. Not good for the victims family. And just goes to show how the spin departments of both our governments are constantly misleading the people, feeding us with a distorted vision of whats going on in the ME so it is supported and financed.
When did democracies stop being transparent to its people? When did they stop doing what the people want. Feeding us with constant stream of misleading information in an effort to make us agree with what they, a small group of people want to do? Democracy??? Bullshit.

As a signals detachment commander for the Army Air Corps, after any serious incident it is common practise for active log books to be seized for evidence. They are accountable documents, and must be archived for 5 years in peacetime, sometimes longer in an operational tour.
The two logs that got taken involved the voice CNR net of the armoured convoy, and 16 Air Assualt Brigade's secure command net, with US air liason. The conversation wasn't a nice one, to say the least. The whole affair lasted for over 24 hours, including the patrol, contact, check fire, extraction and clean up.

That's strange; when the Americans bombed Al-Zarqawi they couldn't wait to release the video. In fact they had some smug General talking us through the guy's death and yet when it comes to friendly fire they take four years and still claim it's "classified".aardfrith wrote:

The most horrendous thing about that video is when one of the pilots refers to the orange marking on top of the British Vehicles (a supposed fail-safe for preventing this kind of thing) and his Co-Pilot brushes it off because enemy rocket launchers are orange too. I’m sure in the heat of war, you have to make split second decisions but if there was a 50/50 chance that the orange was enemy or friendly surely you don’t bomb!
Exactly, we had a thing called PID, POSITIVE IDENTIFICATION, before we took any shots. That was just blatant disregard, on both the FAC and the Pilots, they should have done a fly over with tail end ready to fire lead ship checking ID=OBS= EstebanRey wrote:

Yet another case of trigger happy troops. The guy in the video is right, they should be in jail.
I heard this on the radio the today, yet again they kill our troops and get away with it..
BASTARDS... *cough*
and so much for good old Englands government, allowing themselves to be bullied and assf*cked by the yanks. i think sometimes they forget how powerful we were once

It think the question should actually be WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU LOOKING AT THE SUN!
On a different note, they dont want it to cause friction so keep it covered up.

Cant get the video to load...anyone got another link?? think the stun is suffering too many hits lol
According to the reports on the news this morning - BBC Radio Five Live - it was not officially released. A spokeswoman from the Pentago had said it was classified as Secret and hence whoever leaked it to the press would be subject to criminal investigation.Sgt_Sieg wrote:

I don't think it's strange that the video has never been officially released. In fact, I would have been surprised had it been. The US has stated that it does not want its armed forces to be subjected to foreign investigations and proceedings, which is why it hasn't signed up to the International Criminal Court.

The incident, in the early stages of the Iraq war, involved a convoy of four British vehicles. Orange panels on the vehicles were misidentified as orange missiles.
In the video, the pilots working with targeting coordinators on the ground misidentified a British convoy as Iraqi forces and are informed shortly after opening fire that they had attacked "friendlies." (Read a transcript of the cockpit video)
"Be advised that ... you have friendly armor in the area," a targeting coordinator said.
"Ahh s--- ... f---, f---, f---." said one of the A-10 pilots, code named Popov35. "I'm going to be sick."
The conversation continued between the pilots after an initial report of one British soldier killed and one wounded.
"Did you hear?" asked Popov35.
"Yeah, this sucks," said the second pilot, Popov36.
"We're in jail dude," said Popov35.
"Damn it. F......ing damn it," Popov36 continued a short time later.
The pilots were then told to abort their mission and return to base.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Popov35's comment "we're in jail dude" is wrong. The ground controllers who identified the friendly as an Iraqi force should be in jail.
Second, this is a legite mistake that took someones life. You'd do better openly apologizing and being a man about it, rather than cover it up and live with the guilt all your life.
Either way, a very sad story.

Unfortunately it's not the pilots decision about openly apologizing and "being a man about it". That's the job of the REMFs and bureaucrats safe in the Pentagon. If they say "it's classified" there's nothing the pilots can do about it.Mason4Assassin444 wrote:

If thats the case, its wrong. Now the family of the deceased can relive thier tragedy knowing he was killed by friendlies. The pilots will be scapegoated. This is a sad case indeed.aardfrith wrote:

Like the PAt Tillman bullshit. How many other soldiers have died from FF? We'll never know.
