Hey folks,

I like to write for a hobby and I'm working on a military story involving the US Navy. I'm trying to get it as accurate as possible so I'm doing a lot of researching into stuff but I can't seem to find one thing so far.
Because most of the story will be set on an aircraft carrier I kinda want to know the interior layout of a Nimitz Class aircraft carrier. I dunno if images of maps or blueprints can even be found on the web, military security and all that, but I guessed I could always asked and hopefully someone would be able to help me and point me somewhere that might help me.

Thanks in advance,

Why should I give them to you?  You're probably a terrorist looking for a way to sink a carrier.

Go home terrorist.

Nothing short of a nuke can sink a Nimitz class carrier.

Yeah, Nimitz are tough, but the problem with sinking one is not that of sheer explosive power.  You could do it with conventional weapons, you don't need a nuke.

The problem is delivering it.  With a complement of 80 aircraft, in addition to it's own missile launchers and turret-mounted cannon, it's pretty much impossible to deliver an attack.  You can't get close enough without your ship being bombed by jets, or your own jets being intercepted by the carriers fighters, or your missile being taken down by Sea Sparrows, or your speedboat being torn apart by 20mm cannon fire, or whatever.  And that's not even considering the fact that a big carrier like that is always going to have an escort fleet, purposely chosen to keep the carrier safe.

You don't need a nuclear weapon to sink a Nimitz-class vessel.  You need a bloody miracle.

An akula-class submarine, with a decent commander silently waiting in ambush, can sink anything.

I'm putting my money on either the SS-N-22 SUNBURN or AS-17 KRYPTON missile, BUT you will have a hell of a time to come within range

Well aircraft carriers these days are considered the fort of the sea, like 158 said it's near impossible to even get close to a carrier without being blasted out of the water or the sky. As far as I know only one attack ever succeeded while a carrier was in port.

Now if only our virtual carrier had that kind of weaponry at its disposal.

I thought the exact same thing, but alas everyone would then bitch the carrier was too hard and it would get nerfed.

A Nimitz class carrier is widely considered to be unsinkable by conventional weaponry, even by anti-ship missiles and torpedoes. When you consider the stout construction, skilled D/C crews, massive size, large and technologically advanced airwing, half a dozen powerful surface and subsurface escorts, then you can be sure that if you are successful in damaging a Nimitz class, then you yourself will probably not be around to brag about it afterwards. Also note that the Nimitz class can still remain afloat with the majority of its bulkheads destroyed and compartments filled with water. The Nimitz's ability to isolate flooding to individual compartments make it a waste of time to try and sink. A submarine could literally blow out the entire lower decks of a Nimitz and still not sink it. For these reasons, it is the most survivable warship in history. To put this into perspective, let's say the enemy is able to launch a conventional attack on a Nimitz class carrier. With the carrier's defenses alone, it can destroy up to 4 incoming anti-ship missiles (even ones with anti-anti-air countermeasures) with 100% success. That said, it also has ships and submarines in its battle group completely devoted to protecting it. Initiating an attack on a Nimitz class carrier is near impossible to do, and if you are able to carry out such an attack, you won't be successful. This is why the Soviet Union was prepared to use nuclear weapons against air and surface combatants alike.

This is nothing like the Titanic. The Titanic sunk as a result of poor contruction, not because people claimed it was unsinkable.

I hope your not including a Los Angels attack submarine in there, or ESPECIALLY a Ohio class missile sub considering the Ohio class has never been successfully tracked. Even by our own navy whose equipment is multiple times better then anything the Russians, Chinese, or anyone else out side of NATO fields(I say NATO because Im pretty sure the UK has some new sonar development).

The Nimitz-class is only unsinkable by anything short of a nuke because it would be an unholy scandal if someone managed to sink something that expensive with that many people aboard. They float by the power of arrogance and hope, powered by political death.

Feasibly, you COULD sink one, but it would take a ridiculous amount of time and conventional weaponry, so much that you would end up in nuke territory anyway.
Thus, the Russians decided to cheat with cold war tech, and developed nuclear anti-ship missiles and torpedoes. Even a near miss would either sink it, cause so much damage it would be useless, or at the very least knock everything loose or off the side.

Mind, even if you CAN get a warhead close to it, you'd have to really spam the battlegroup with missiles in the hope one gets through, so nobody really bothers.
Well, some guy in Iraq did in '91, but the missile was shot down by a missile from a nearby british destroyer when all the fancy American radar-aimed guns missed.
