A BBC international opinion poll suggests there is widespread disquiet about the United States' role in Iraq and its other foreign policy priorities.

The survey also says the US's image around the world is being seriously damaged by the chaos in Iraq.
It also asked questions about the US handling of Guantanamo detainees; the Israel-Hezbollah war; Iran's nuclear programme; global warming; and North Korea's nuclear programme. Overall, this new opinion poll sampled the views of 26,000 people in 25 countries.
Australia, China, Egypt and Great Britain have a 60% mainly negative view of the US, while France, Indonesia and Germany have a 70%.  Nigeria appears with 70% mainly positive view of the US.  Only 57% of Americans believe the US is still having a positive influence, compared with 63% in 2006.

I think these numbers are all Bush administration's fault and it's a shame the whole country has to deal with a rise of Anti-Americanism because of his mistakes.

Exactly.

In an interconnected global economy, where American companies are increasingly reliant on revenues from American products and services sold abroad, why should we care what anyone thinks of us?

And clearly, this is all just part of the Bush administration's War on Terror master plan. We Americans are much safer now that most of the world's citizens hate and resent us.

Edit: Ah well. At least we Americans are proud of what the Bush administration has been doing, even if the rest of the world doesn't appreciate it.

I knew that would be the first US response and really plays into the hands of the Poll results.  I bet if a family member became an alcoholic he'd want to let them know his concerns and would hate it if he got told "it's my life not yours" back.....

As the people on this forum like to promote, what the US does can affect the whole World and thus the whole World has a right to crtisise the US, especially when their army could be invading your country.

Why do you think terrorists attack the US? Because they hate the US.

More people hating the US = more terrorists = losing the war on terror.

If you make people like the US you get less people trying to blow you up. That's not terrorist appeasement, that's just being able to get along with people properly. These days America is seeming very much like the arrogant, rich, captain of the football team who has everything handed to them on a plate kind of prick that appears so often in Hollywood films. Americas dysfunctional foreign policy would be the best place to start fixing that bad global image the US is condemning themselves to.

Really?  Even if they are UK and Australia?  These two US allies have also a negative view of the US.  What can you expect from Muslim countries then?  You should give a crap.

Nope.  It does not matter if I care or I don't, they will just bitch and moan about something else.  If people don't like that the US affects a lot of countries, then stop crying like a chick on the rag and do something about it.

It's nothing to do with the US affecting lots of countries. It's all about how the US affects them.

You people want me to open my mind?  What about the people in this poll?  Can they not look at other things besides Iraq?  Maybe if people were not such media sheep, they could judge a country on more than one action.  Do the French get judged by what the French Foreign Legion does in Africa?.

you are ignorant
Nice response.  You are a cow fucker.
ditto to you. However, in your previous post you said that if people dont like how america affects so much of the world, you forgot to say "in a negative aspect", they should stop crying like a chick on the rag and do somethign about it. Well, I got news for you, hick, they HAVE been doing something about it. Theyre called terrorists, and theyve been doing somethign about it for several decades now. And you know what? The US brought it on themselves.

I fuckin hate how americans sit on their high horses blissfully ignorant of the fact that their country is doing so much harm around the world, and then are surprised when they get attacked. I dont advocate terrorism, by any means, and I myself am an american citizen, but how so many people here watch their Fox news and trust that thats the face of truth makes me sick. people like you, usmarine2007, need to pull your heads out of your asses and see how america treats the rest of the world, instead of assuming simply that the US is the "good guys" and everyone else is the "bad guys"

like I said, you are ignorant

They do. There are six issues covered by the poll. Only one of those has anything to do with Iraq.

I find it strange that if americans doesn´t care much about what everyone else thinks of them...then howcome they feel the need to improve the world to their superior standards ? (sarcasm)

And this "we don´t care....we still rule" attutide that many americans have really made all problems worse...as someone else said in another thread...the world isn´t as big as it used to be....why not try to care about what others think and see how that works out?

For the "you are with us or against us" thing....isnt´t it easier to co-operate with everyone instead of forcing them to follow your will by threats?

All this "we doo what we please" is really one of the major problems that perhaps finally the US administration will understand.

The world really want´s to be involved making the world better....but not on US terms and standards only.
It´s really a shame that USA has turned into a new Soviet Union or DDR...and can´t see it themselves...

and brinson...not doing anything? The politics run by USA the last 50 years have pulled all this terror down on your nation...isn´t it time to change it now? We in scandinavia have had our share of all this, but many many years ago...we had vikings raping many nations ....and they raped us back....not very hard to understand.

What are you talking about?

America has never 'not done anything' with regards to foreign policy and to do so would be really, really stupid.

Foreign policy with better PR spin, that the rest of the world can appreciate. That'll help. Belligerent foreign policy is where the problems of the US almost all stem from. This thread is about how the US is perceived negatively around the world, due to inadvisable foreign policies.

It is US foreign policy that created Al Qaeda and provided Saddam with WMDs as well as many other disasters (not that most other nations are blame free, but the US does have an appalling track record with foreign policy).

yeah well its not all of America. Just mainly the scared people who don't possess the ability to see through lies, propaganda and fear. In many ways, they aren't even American in any way other than they were born here. True patriots are becoming fewer and fewer...

I agree that America's vast influence gives many the right to criticize, but where are the polls about all the positive that has been done by America?  Iraq is deteriorating due to the fact that the Iraqui's won't fight for themselves.  The Bush administration, like many Americans, under estimated this factor.  Many American's born with priveleges most people can't even imagine can't imagine that an oppressed people wouldn't rise up once freed.

But what about Afghanistan?  That has gone extremely well.  There is some heightened aggression of late, but the indiginous people are fighting for their freedom.  What about the American aid to other countries in times of devastation; i.e tsunami, earthquake, hurricane?  These are the things I don't understand.

I understand usmarine2007's frustration because I too am a veteran and understand how it feels to be criticized for the one thing going bad in a sea of things going good.  But I think he is wrong about not giving a crap.  The world has become "globalized" and hence, smaller.  As 9/11 showed us, America is no longer untouchable and isolated from trouble.  That is not to say America needs to cow to every critism given, but we do need to be aware of where we are wanted and where we aren't and how American interests are affected.

Regardless of whether anyone likes it or not, Iraq is in America's interest.  If America cuts and runs, the mess left behind will be scooped up by the another tyrant very possibly with a treaty with Iran.  This definitely would not bode well for American's on American soil or abroad.  The safety of the American nation rests with the turnout in Iraq whether anyone agrees with the war or not.

Terrorism is no different then racism.  It's a disease of the ignorant.  In order for the people of terrorist nations to be educated, they must first be liberated.  People in other countries have no idea what real Americans believe or think.  They base their whole opinion of America on what a few Americans say or do.  How many people actually know someone, personally, from the US?  The point being, we Americans are no different then anyone else.
