I could go through over half the posts and show you how they have nothing to do with that. But I don't care enough about BF2 anymore.

A gun that shoots 3 shot bursts will not kill a full health soldier (unless you hit them in the head) if the damage per shot is less than 33.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333.  That is why it seems that some weapons kill faster than others.  If you shoot your 3 round burst and hit all three times, and the dude with the ak101/47 shoots full auto at the same time and hits you.  You die.  You lose that fraction of a second between burts.  Unless you have armor. 

I could go on and on about a whole bunch of scenarios, but forget it, I need to get some work done.

Short answer: Hit them with your bullets, and don't let them hit you with theirs.

wow just wow, m16 fail gun. Way to much deviation, damage is avg, rate of fire is fail compared to other burst etc etc. G36E is undesputed best gun in the game, also the easiest gun to use and one of the nubbiest. The G3 can be nice, but its magazine capacity is too low to be of much use in extended firefights. Default assault guns are better overall. PKM's good if you're prone and have some support, but the RPK, if you can get it, seems to be the most effective LMG. The G36x are great for holding points and skirmishing, and ultra-deadly if you have the high ground. But nothing beats the pump-action shotgun for up close damage.
