Just finished the memoirs of Sepp Allerberger, who was one of very few German snipers awarded the Knights Cross during WW2. He became a sniper for II Battalion, GebirgsJäger Regiment 144 when he quickly figured out he wouldn't last long as a machine gunner. As you can imagine it deals with the atrocities & horrors that young men faced in the Eastern Front, and focuses mainly with the Wehrmacht's retreat.  A very gruesome read in parts, but i'd recommend it to any adults in the forum.  The book is by Albrecht Wacker, the title is "Sniper on the Eastern Front" and it's published by pen-and-sword
