[I understand this is a VERY touchy subject and would appreciate it if we kept the shit slinging out of this thread. I'm asking a simple question.]

The thread title is basically my question. If you believe in God (Or Allah, or whomever), why? I am toeing the line between agnostic and athiest, and would like to know. I'm not here to question your beliefs, or tell you that what you think is wrong. I just want to know. Thanks.

Why do you believe that the Bible is the Holy Scripture? I understand that it says so in the Bible, but why do you believe it?

People state they do not believe in God because they believe the Bible is false. So why can't he state that he believes the Bible is the source of truth to explain why he believes in God?

Why not? I see it as a fall-back. There is a 100% chance of us all dieing. It's nature. Why not believe in a God? If the God is real, good for you, you will be saved. If you don't believe in one and there is a God, he'll (she'll?) say, "Oops, you didn't believe in me, go burn in hell." If there isn't then, oh well, you didn't waste that much time worshiping him/her/it. (1 hour a week for Christians.)

It was my inference of how this thread will progress. What I don't understand, and why I made this thread, is because the only reason that the average Christian has to defend their support of God is because God said so. Superior is correct, it is akin to a father saying that a child should follow his instruction "Because I said so".

Claiming that you are religious because you were brought up in a religious family is akin to saying "I beat my children because my daddy beat me."

There is no hard support yet, hence the creation of this thread.

i dont believe in god because nothing in my 24 years of experience have led me to believe that there is a higher power with plan. if anything the more and more I see it, the more obvious it is.. I dont even like calling my self an athiest. I am secular. I hate religion. Ive seen first hand how the religious beliefs of others requier the deaths of innocents.

Actually there is a 92% chance of dying.
Here's my reasoning for this statisticly speaking. Okay so right now on earth there are approximatly 8% of all the humans who have ever existed. This means that 8% of humans have never died, thus statisticly speaking, you only have a 92% chance of dying.
Bring that up if anyone uses statistics against you.

We-ell, in the Bible it says that everything written in the Bible is true which means that statement is true which means that the Bible is true and that there is a God... *gasp*.
It's the "Hole in my Bucket" syndrome where everything circles around to cover it's own arse.

Regardless it's a question of faith. I don't have faith, others do. That's hunky-dory matie-patatie but honestly it's too confusing to be 100% certain. I mean for one, the world is a bunch of random bullshit, that dosn't seem to suggest that there is a God with a supreme plan. God is a kid with an ant nest, there's no fucking plan, (dammit which movie did I nick that from...)
On the other side of the argument, Beer exists, and Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.
Beer exists without God but God dosn't exist without beer. That's a balance I'm quite content with. If I keep my beer, you fundamentalists can keep your God.
