Well a comment on my sig has kinda brought me to a question i want your oppinions on.

If a 10 year old kid see's a naked woman. Is it bad? Can it actually affect a kids childhood, Really?? Cavemen kids didn't care.

This whole phobia of nudity is a leftover from the Puritans. Why would it hurt someone to see people the way they were made? Sex is a whole different story though. Kids don't need to see that.

It's certainly not as bad as letting them play GTA where they can kill prostitutes after fucking em in the back of their Hummer to get their money back.

Or letting them watch hyperviolent movies / television shows.

Sex is natural and peaceful. In fact, I think some kids these days could use a lot more information on the subject in order to facilitate more healthy and safe sexual habits.

The fact is, everyone has these parts. What if we decided everyone's fingers were obscene? It's an archaic embarrassment really. I wonder why it's been so long that we've been so shy about sexuality in general, but the naked human body specifically. Do we still feel ashamed or guilty for seeing it? It makes little sense at this point.

Yeah, American culture is pretty dysfunctional with regards to censorship. Groups like the American Family Association make a big deal out of nudity and profanity on TV, but they seem to gloss over violence and gore. In other words, they're pretty idiotic, but typical of the religious right.

I think Western Europe and Canada are far more functional with regards to this culturally speaking. They censor violence and gore more than profanity or nudity. We should follow their example more closely in the future, but don't hold your breath for that one....

Swearing is another thing that shouldn't be bad. Words are words in my oppinion. No i wouldn't go up to my mom and say "I don't want any fucking meatloaf" but thats because for some reason, Key words in the english language are labeled 'bad'

Nudity is associated with the propriety aspect of certain cultures. Other than that, it's not inherently bad. Just mostly tasteless...ugh, I hate seeing beer bellies and ass cracks in restaurants. Think I want to see the whole deal?

And using "caveman kids" as a basis for social comparison to the modern world is also invalid.

Profanity is the biggest scam ever. All a word is, is an arrangement of sounds used to convey a message. It's social elite who have nothing better to do than impose their self-righteous caste systems on everyone who regard profanity so severely.

If my kid says "Fuck you" to somebody, I view that as a clear message toward that individual. It's only because of social norms imposed on us that I'd feel that I should tell him not to swear. It makes no logical sense. Communication is communication.

Seriously though, I don't think it about whether the kid sees a naked person, it's more the context. If it's a gang-bang snuff video then it won't really teach the child respect other people. A soft porn photo isn't going to be the end of the world.

The sad thing though is if we were all allowed to walk around naked and we saw naked woman on TV all the time it wouldn't be nearly as fun when we are finally able to take a chicks clothes off. So if the government wants to censer it, go ahead as long as I can still do it at home.
