G'day,

Ive always thought that the crosshairs on the assault AK101 were smaller, but I never bothered about it. Today I dropped my medic AK101 and picked up the assault one and immediately realized that the crosshairs on the assault kit were in fact, smaller.

Discuss.

Both pictures were taken with me standing up and staying still.

(yes laugh at my gfx...new comp coming soon )

I never knew that. I think that i would lean to medic AK-101 because it probably has a spray area more chance of hitting a target close/medium range. Assault probably for long range.

Well, you could argue that if the assaults crosshairs were larger it would be due to the GL, but since its the other way round...

Find a document on both guns accuracy and compare them, if that fails then it might just be some more brilliant coding by DICE and co.

I never noticed that, although it seems fair if the assault ak would be a bit more accurate

Wow...I've never realized that?! But I guess they both have the same accuracy. Personally I've never experienced that one of these guns is more accurate than the other and I'm using both very often in the last time as I'm going for my expert Assault Badge.

plenty of people have put together gun comparison charts before.. nobody's ever found anything mentioning an assault AK and a medic AK.

Why are you missing bars from your sprint/jump bar on the medic screenie?

Makes sense as you would expect an "assault specialist" to be better with an assault rifle.

for medic I spawned at a different place, so I had to sprint to that place to take the screeny

I know that, just trying to work out why the crosshairs are different.

I always thought that the Assault AK 101 was more accurate, as is the M16. I just shook it off as random deviation being luckier for me.

I tried this with USMC too...no difference in deviation

I suppose it explains why I get pissed with the medic's AK not hitting that dam guy over there, when I know I should be able to hit him.

Interesting find, have a +1

(I also feel in the mood for some bf2 and to test this out myself )

hmm?  That's odd since the only difference between the two  is the grenade launcher- which does change the type of elevated sights (rear sights), but only when you raise the grenade sight would it even loook any different..  I didn't even know my SKS had a grenade sight until someone showed me it could be raised into position.

Yet the weapon stats don't really reflect the differences in crosshair size, I do find myself more accurate with the assault version of the rifle.  Probably just one of those things that make BF2.

There's only one Ak101 in the Clientsettings, hence Assault and Medic are the same. If you find differences you just imagine them.

The crosshairs don't mean shit.
Just take the PKM or the RPK-74, for example.
Do 0.8 deviation really look that huge in comparison to the tiny 1.0 of the G36C when gone prone position?
No.

Sorry but you are wrong, as the thread starter seems to be according to the battlefield 2 files.

Code:

»Objects/Weapons/Handheld/RURIF_AK101
»Objects/Weapons/Handheld/RURIF_GP30
The upper one is the one the medic carries, below the assault's AK-101. The grenade launcher itself is RURGL_GP30, so don't be confused because of the GP30 in the name. You can check this in Objects/Kits/MEC/whatever.con. Lets see the content of the tweak files:

Code:

Medic Version

ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.deviationFactor 5
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.maxVisualDeviation 28
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.minVisualDeviation 7

ObjectTemplate.deviation.setFireDev 2 0.2 0.05
ObjectTemplate.deviation.minDev 0.45
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setTurnDev 0 0 0 0
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setSpeedDev 1 0.25 0.25 0.1 [!]
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setMiscDev 3 1.5 0.05 [!]
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModStand 1.3
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModCrouch 1.2
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModZoom 0.8

Assault Version

ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.deviationFactor 5
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.maxVisualDeviation 27
ObjectTemplate.weaponHud.minVisualDeviation 4

ObjectTemplate.deviation.setFireDev 2 0.2 0.05
ObjectTemplate.deviation.minDev 0.45
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setTurnDev 0 0 0 0
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setSpeedDev 1.2 0.25 0.25 0.1 [!]
ObjectTemplate.deviation.setMiscDev 3.2 1.5 0.05 [!]
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModStand 1.3
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModCrouch 1.2
ObjectTemplate.deviation.devModZoom 0.8
The first three lines determine the crosshair size in relation of the deviation the weapon really has. They do not affect the accuracy of the weapon, but the soldier's [meaning the player's skill to aim]. You can see that the "MinVisualDeviation" of the medic is higher, that means the smallest crosshair size of the weapon is 7 for the medic and 4 for the assault.

The next lines are the real deviation. I marked differences with [!]. Though it is a quite complicated calculation, you can clearly see that the Assault's AK has simply higher deviation, meaning that it is less accurate than the medic's AK, unlike the thread starter thought. It #1 looses more accuracy as soon as the soldier jumps [first argument of the MiscDev] [well this is nonsense as you can't shoot for 0.7 seconds after hitting the jump key and thus you won't ever notice a difference] and #2 less accurate when moving forward [first argument of the SpeedDev]. One of the replies said "Crosshairs don't mean shit". He is right.

yeah, I've noticed that too. Assault ak-101 seems to get me more kills all the time.

if you noticed though, the assault gun is less accurate

however, it may be easier to aim with smaller crosshairs

I'm going to try out, whether the client will check for this feature when entering a game. If not, I'm going to adjust all values from 1 (beginning, everything else would cover heads) to the maximum deviation then.
