Computers aren't getting any cheaper for an unemployed 14 year old so i'm wondering if it's worth the upgrade. Why would I consider something this crappy? Only a 250 watt PSU. Right now i'm using a 256MB Radeon 9600.
Dude, PSU's aren't that expensive either._j5689_ wrote:

A $20 400W PSU. It's cheap, may not last long, but hey...400 Watts for $20? Not bad!
Just ask something for Christmas.
It's an OEM case by HP so I don't know what will fit in it. It's a Pavilion 750n.
Just cruise Newegg for a compatible PSU. YOu can find 'em really cheap on there._j5689_ wrote:

And if you find one that fits, but is a bit pricey..."You can do it Eeeee-baaay"
www.ebay.com
I wish I knew which ones were compatible.
Generally speaking, they are all the same size. Yet if your case is too small...Well, you're 'fucked' as they would say.
Hopefully more technological geniuses will post here soon. I have a very limited knowledge of computers.

I wonder if there would be any performance benefits for upgrading to a larger pwoer supply as well since it can provide much more energy to the parts.
i have this same card and it works fine for me._j5689_ wrote:

Are you expecting much improvement going to an 9600 to a 9600XT? Don't. If you can afford it, get a 6600 AGP (Or some ATi equivilent) I'm seeing GTs for 70-130, and its much better than even a 9800XT.
What the hell? Your eBay has a slogan. Ours is "Buy shit, yo'!"

My state was founded by Batman. Your opinion is invalid.
I have a 9600 and it works fine.
How much you got to spend?

Why would you waste money upgrading from a 9600 to a 9600XT?
Save the money and do your PSU or get some more ram

Buying a 9600XT won't help you much.. I say, get a job / look at your parents / save your money and go for something that'll deliver more quality for your money.
A lot of HP and Dell cases are proprietary. They have stepped away from it, but it still exists.
In other words, take off the side of your case and see if it looks like this:
Variations are fine, such as hard drive cage positioning and the like but if something is drastically different (in the upper left hand corner especially) then something's up.

Well, is there nowhere written if your case is built after an ATX-standard?
That's what the case looks like:
Perhaps this picture will give you a small clue as to whether the power supply is removable, you can see a little bit of it in the upper right corner:

ideally, we need to see the entire side of the psu..
Please get a can of air too. What amount can you spend on upgrades? Do you still only have the 512 MB's of ram that came with it?

I can spend like 150 but I want some left over. It originally came with 2 256s but I upgraded to 2GBs of RAM which is the limit for this motherboard which is an Asus P4B266LA.Clean wrote:

i don't think u need to upgrade.
I agree with Slayero. Just keep saving. I know it is hard at your age but buying another AGP card for that is not a long term solution. You can put together a very decent system for 450-500 that will play BF2 fine. There are 7600Gt's cheap out there that will only get cheaper. I just bought an extra FX-55 off newegg for $130. What kind of Ram do you have?
It's PC 2700 RAM and it's 2GB of it. It will take me years to reach anywhere near 500$. In Maryland, everyone is a dick and they don't employ you if you're 14 usually. Upgrading, in this case, will be a long-term solution.Clean wrote:

Why dont you ask your parents for money, I mean if you are 14 you should still live with your parents.

A good proposition.....for most parents. You've just found the select 2/100 parents that will not buy you a new computer or lend you more than 20$ in cash. None of my relatives would do the same thing either.Jussimies wrote:

Try to find an upgrade path that lets you use most of the components you have. Processor speed doesn't help BF2 much at all if you have a good video card. It wouldn't be an ideal upgrade path but you can find a motherboard with a socket 478 (your Pentium 4) and a PCI X16 slot. That, along with a case, would let you swap everything over and just get a better video card. MSI 945GT Speedster-A4R Socket 478 Intel 945GT Micro ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail $130 on Newegg. Even an entry level 7300GT would be better than the video card you have. They can be found for 60 bucks. Then you may want to upgrade your processor after all that. Even those are moderately priced. There are 3 Ghz P4's for 80 bucks. gradually upgrading will give you goals to look forward to.
