1-Do you think it's going to happen?

Most definitely.

2-If so, when do you think it's going to happen?

2030-2040 time frame.

3-Which would the main causes be?

1) Collapse of the US Dollar leading to the default of US credit-based economy.  Other countries would try to collect their debts and be chased off with military force.  China, India, and Saudi Arabia will be lining up to get a piece of American ass when this happens, and any settlement with one will be suspicious to the others.
2) Zionist / Anti-Zionist Extremism - Israel is losing most of its friends day by day, especially in the EU.  The "Rapture is coming!" crowd in the US will definitely be on board for this one...especially after being broke, unemployed, foreclosed, and bankrupt...what else is there but to riot or pray?
3) Russian Empire - Growing another hairy pair of balls, Putin is setting them up to be the next empire to dominate economically AND militarily.  They won't have the "moral high ground" to back it like the US enjoyed after WW2 and squandered after 9/11, but they won't need it.
4) EU's continuing enlargement - Regulations will cause a backlash among member states that can't abide by all regulations and get screwed.
5) Global Climate change - Debate the causes all you want, but it is real and will have a shock effect on available land, resources, population displacement, and general happiness.  A majority of the world's population lives in coastal areas, the most hard hit from harsh weather and rising ocean levels.  That's a lot of refugees and pissed off people.

4and 5 -Which forces would be involved? Alliances?

1) Fractured EU forces
2) USA/Britain/Australia/Israel/"some former soviet states"
3) Russia
4) China/NK/Iran Alliance
5) India and East Africa

Canada stays neutral but has a refugee problem, South America makes a lot of noise but doesn't do much, Africa doesn't make any noise or do much, the Middle East/North Africa will be a major battleground, but no "Alliance" per se, just partisan/insurgent/rebel attacks on any foreigners in the area...some groups may get paid off to take sides.  Turkey will make some territorial grabs from Iraq and some Greek Islands, maybe a northern stab into Bulgaria and Ukraine, but won't get involved in the major scheme of things.

6-How long do you imagine this war could take?

It could play itself out in about 10 to 15 years.

7-How would this war end?  Who would be the winners?

Russia - Makes some territory gains, re-conquering some of its satellite states.
China - Grabs SE Asia (singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, etc.) and levels Japan and South Korea without taking it.
USA - No loss from main territory, loses Guantanamo and Guam and military bases in the rest of the world.
Turkey - Turkey gets a little bigger but can't hold on to anything they grab, goes back to original size after 10 more years or so.
EU - About half of member states leave at the end, general territories are still intact.  Spain is fractured into pieces.
Africa and South America - Countries' borders and names change in a few places, but generally no overall change in character.  There will definitely be more contrast between "civilized Africa" and "wild Africa".
Australia - A stray nuke from China levels the entire island.  Ayer's Rock is flattened.  Nobody misses them.
Britain - Could be fractured into independant Scotland and Ireland could be re-united, tough to call this one.

The thing is THIS president had a chance to effect and shift policy towards fixing three major disasters heading our way, and chose instead to accelerate them to where in 2008 nothing can be fixed. 

This idiot president reversed Clinton's policy with the budget-balancing, trade deficit, and national debt, fast-forwarding the world economic dollar doomsday clock.  He also put in high office the most corrupt lot of white-collar criminals you could possibly fit in one capital city, including fund-raising con artists, Enron accountants, and fellow Ivy League D-students with million dollar habits of one sort or another.

This idiot president also stifled any meaningful debate about what to do about and prepare for global climate change, instead gagging scientists because they were afraid the blame game might implicate his money base of oil magnates.  The debate was focused on this instead of what to do about it regardless of the cause.  Actually, in the name of helping his corporate business partners, he did a LOT more damage than just this as far as environment goes.

This idiot president further provoked Middle East tensions beyond anything dreamed about by the extremists there before, letting Osama laugh his ass off as more flocked to his cause and took up the Al Qaeda brand name.  Steeeeeeeeee-rike 3!  We're out.

The 2008 president better have a RADICAL change in US policy planned and the diplomacy skills to get the rest of the world suddenly trusting us enough to go along with it, or WW3 is as good as a signed contract with fate.

WWIII:

I think that events are now in motion for WW3.

2-If so, when do you think it's going to happen?
It could blow up (pardon the pun) anytime soon.

3-Which would the main causes be?
I think if another attack happens on American soil this could trigger it off.

4-Which forces would be involved?
The Reaction by the USA would be used by Extremist Islam to rally Arab nations together. Tunisia, Jordan, Iran, Iraqi, Afghanistan, Pakistan, UAE.............

5-Would alliances exist?  Which ones?
The UK, Japan,South Korea, Israel and US would stick together. The ME Arab nations, Pakistan plus Russia and China maybe North Korea. India I am not sure which side they would choose. They Hate Pakistan so I can't see them being on the same team but their is the whole colonial resentment against the UK.

6-How long do you imagine this war could take? 
How long does it take to press a big red button............. I think we would see ground hostilities maybe last a year between the US coalition and the Arab nations.  Pakistan will change allegiances, probably by the over throwing of the current western friendly regime on a tide of Arab nationalism and be "Bombed back to the stone age" Pakistan will threaten to use its Nukes. Russia and China will then step in and pick sides seeing this as the ideal situation for expansion, or simply to protect their lucrative export economy.

7-How would this war end? 
I still don't think a nation would start a full scale attack, its suicide. A terrorist cell may however detonate a nuclear bomb. US coalition would then align the particular terrorists with a Country ala Iraqi and possibly Nuke said country. Probably just tactical Nukes, it depends on the timing. If  ground troops are spread so thinly in other theaters. Tactical nukes may be seen as a valid option. Although I do believe that America would show restraint, even if she was Nuked and not fire intercontinental nukes. So I believe that we will come to the brink of destruction but not engage in a full scale nuclear war. If we did their would be no winners. Ultimately WW3 would split the world into 3. Two sides and the neutral countries.

1.  No.

The world's major military powers at the moment are the US, China and European countries.  North Korea claims to have the manpower but I doubt they have the technology to mount any resistance to any other power.

With the last great communist state (China) becoming a force for capitalism and North Korea taking small steps along the same road, the only forces I can see that might see benefit from invading countries forcefully, rather than trading with them, are in the Middle East - Iran and Israel.  However, since the invasion of Kuwait was put down forcefully by a United Nations coalition, it's something they'd have to think about long and hard before doing.

Were any sort of invasion to happen, for instance if we pull out of Iraq and Iran moves in, I can't see it sticking.  The response would be a united front of the major world powers and nothing could stand in their way.

2-If so, when do you think it's going to happen? Not for a while. BF2142 gave a pretty good story as to why the world went at war, I'd say it would be in the far future.

3-Which would the main causes be? Previous wars, occupation of territories, secretly assisting countries to revolt against "the main enemy". Disease (H5N1 breakout?), could even be a V for Vendetta-esque thing where people rise against their governments, and it ultimately ends up being a war between Left and Right so to speak.

4-Which forces would be involved? Assuming these nations stay the same in the 'far future': United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Russia, All those Russian-like states (Ukraine, Serbia, etc), and Arab states.

5-Would alliances exist?  Yes, one alliance between the US thru Germany, and then the other alliance being Russia, her buddy countries, and some Arab states.

6-How long do you imagine this war could take? 10 years?

7-How would this war end?  Who would be the winners? The war would end with either total obliteration of the other side, probably in favor of the first Alliance (US thru Germany). The first few years would be somewhat conventional war, eventually leading up to mindless destruction of the other country, be it civilians or military targets.

The other outcome would be everyone is blown up by nukes, and thus the 2142 "saga" begins =p

Who cares grab a beer and watch it unfold, fight if you wanna but your bird will be shagging someone else by the time you get back.

The only war I'd fight in is one against the North Koreans. In that case I will get my girlfriend a chasity belt.
