Sinn Féin are the party representing the majority of the Irish Republican community in Northern Ireland and the DUP (Democratic Unionist Party) are the hardline bible-thumpers representing the pro-UK descended from the British settlers in Northern Ireland.

The DUP are actively opposing equality legislation for homosexual people in Northern Ireland. On religious grounds. That's the kind of neanderthal mentality the Nationalist/Republican community have to deal with in trying to attain equal rights and have their mandated political parties from being allowed to run the 'country'.

They should crawl back into their caves.

What ive found living in this country that it isn't really about religion. Its about people being different from you. So if you aren't a Protestant, white middle to upper class, straight male the DUP will go against you.

Funny story.
Guy I work with campaigned for years for the DUP council of Ballymena to Unchain the fences of kids play grounds and open the swimming pools and other public conveniences on Sundays to no avail. Playing or any form of recreation other than Church on a Sunday was outlawed within the closed house of the council.
So he went to Ballymena Golf course on a Sunday and took pictures of the DUP councilors playing Golf and then sitting drinking brandy and smoking cigars before jumping into their Merc's to head home obviously over the limit.
He presented the pictures to a DUP councilor and was told that he "wouldn't be responsible for the actions of the unionist people sympathetic to the DUP's stand point on the matter" Which he took as a death threat. The councilor was a Reverent too.
6months later the press got hold of the pictures, the swimming pool was opened and my colleague had his front door set on fire and had to move to another town.

Also when people just wont get on, because of sometthing that their great great great great great great great great great great great great great great grandparents did.
I know that there are issues i (like many) are not aware of, but i love ireland, and the irish, and i just hate the fact that a war can be sooo messy and last for so long

Sure Paisley's (leader of the DUP) own daughter is taking the party to court over sexual discrimination, fairplay to her I say. Our local Catholic Councilors had to go to the European High Court to get a ruling to allow the leisure Center to open on Sundays because of the Protestant objections to it. Now it's one of the busiest days of the week for people using it. If you want to stay at home on Sundays and keep holy the lords day, fine, fuck off if you think you can impose that will on others who don't.

The only reason I heard the word "git" was watching Force 10 From Navarone. When the bomb doesn't blow up the damn the guy (Robert Shaw, I believe) yells out "Miller! That useless git!". Back on topic I thought it said "Intolerant Gifts" and uknowlingly ventured in here and typed this without contributing to the discussion.

However, I'm pissed about all these "gay rights" just like "womens rights." The damn groups are so stupid and contribute moreso to the persecution than helping by causing people to think they're crazy. I treat them all equal until they get fussy and greedy and then they're entered into The Dumbass File.
