It would be nice if the Atheists had a little more respect towards people who do believe.
Are you joking me.  Do you know how many times I've been told I'm going to Hell?  Do you know how many times I've woken up to douche bags in white shirts a tie and a helmet at my door?

Respect?  I don't give a rats ass what you believe as long as:

A) you don't force it upon me and/or tell me that I'm going to basically live in an oven for eternity (never forget that one -- nice little one liner before we started singing our Christmas concert... when I was in fucking preschool).

and B) Don't show up at my door and hand me booklets about the Wonder of Christ, or how to find "true" happiness through prayer.

or... C) wish death upon me because I think that Islam is bullshit.

No, because people are afraid of Hell.

It disgusts me that religion uses fear as a recruitment tactic.
exactly, the only reason i even consider religion is because you can never be 100% there is no hell (even tho there isnt lol). i dont care if i die and i cease to exist, before i was born was the most peaceful time i can remember. so sign me up. but i dont want to spend eternity in hell either.

Today almost 1,2 billion persons are atheists or agnostics.
Why do you think people stopped believing?
Does science prove everything to such a point that people can't believe in God anymore?
Is Organized Religion making people lose faith in God?
Those who choose to believe, do they actually believe, or do they fear to be alone?

1. I was raised atheists
2. To me it sounds as a load of bullcrap. I rather believe in science which uses some sort of logic to back up their theories instead of believing in some creature ''God'' for which no one has the slighest bit of evidence that such a person/creature exists.

Oh, and third: I don't feel like living to a book's rules.

Some scientists say this, some (most) don`t. You obviously are only gonna listen to and quote the ones that agree with your view point.  And as for becoming atheists, we don`t, we are all BORN atheists. It`s not until our brains develop enough for us to think, that we CHOOSE to become religious.

I've really decided in recent weeks that agnosticism is the best way to go in all this. The theists and atheists both lack any sort of proof to come to their conclusion so agnosticism is the way to go in my eyes. Rereading the last page or so of this topic also brought up an interesting point in which people say that they have rejected a god because they believe in science. Well, you can't in a sane mind have any sort of basis to reject science upon. It is based upon logic and reasoning, but is still incomparable to a religion, despite being a part of it. I'm fairly certain that I've been saying for some time now, but neither side has room to argue with one another until one of them gains an advantage of proof. The belief that there is a god is usually based on a feeling just as the belief that there is not one or more is based on some inkling. Oh welll, I'm still Catholic though...

Because religion sounds like bullshit theres some big man up in the clouds who lets people live there iv they are good and they go under ground if they are bad what kind of bs is that? And a virgin mary bs i bet you she was a slut. If anyone reads the Da Vinci code it gives a lotta reasons why not to beleive.
Actually, the Da Vinci code just said that Jesus was a powerful prophet and not the son of God.
And, it said the Mary Magdalen gave birth to a baby from jesus
it says nothing about religion being Bull Crap, it just says about the whole thing of jesus being false...

Yeah, i'm a catholic, somehow i just feeling being here without a purpose is just meaningless.  Yes, i know, it sounds liek i'm being emo about it, but whatever...

I don't tell anyone what to do since I'm in no position of authority to do so. More than a few people have cited these people telling them that they're going to hell or trying to change their religion. I've never experienced such a thing nor do I know of any who do so or have been subject to that phenomenon. It must be happening in all those WEIRD parts of the world

my view exactly, though i think agnostics are just hedging there bets to be honest which does make sense i guess.

Some religions or evolutions of religions i.e. jehova's witnesses make no real sense as they believe only 36,000 and odd people can get into heaven i mean after 2000 years whats the point of even trying to get in?

I would explain it - this is my opinion - it is because of the bad reputation of the most popular churches, because of good education of evolution and because kids don't read anymore - they watch TV. There is much more tolerance towards 'non-believers' now, and people who would go to church because of pressure and whatnot don't go now.

I am not afraid of the dark

I have already come to terms with dying.

well one of them has a 2000 year old book the other has hundreds of years of scientific study which is still continuing and will continue until we are all dead.. or the president bans it on religious grounds.

Asking why some people become atheists is like asking why some people prefer Pepsi to Coke. If they find something that works for them, they do it. It's also a world ruled mainly by fear, in my opinion. Almost every religion says "Beleive in me, or I will kill your ancestors, infect your children with some weird disease, and make your death as painful as possible." It is a world ruled by fear. You want to comply, as to avoid these punishments. I'm an atheist, and in my opinion, the leaders of religions are dictators who rule by fear, and are sometimes hypocritical. Almost every religion says "Thou shalt not kill", yet there are these extremists for EVERY religion, who kill and believe its right, just because their religion is different. The perfect religion with the perfect ideas will always be messed up by at least one human being, who takes it a step too far. Take for example, the Middle East. "Thats our promised land!" "No, its OUR promised land!". Why would a religion care so much about property?
