Its about that time.
Over a dozen accounts & hundreds of hours later, and i'm sitting here thinking about all the good times i've had in BF2.

I'm at the point where i've had so many memories of this game that I honestly cant imagine ever playing another game, 1PS or otherwise. Bf2142 seems like the next logical step, but after playing a bit of it at a buddys house, I didnt like the pace of the game at all. Most likely wont be picking it up.

I dont know where to go next in games...Bf2 has warped my mind to the point where its literally a religion to me lol.

I can still remember the day it released, sitting at home browsing Gamespot.com when all of a sudden I see a review is up. Forums were buzzing with news on the release. I remember hopping in my car & driving down to EB games, and putting that $50 on the counter not realizing i'd get this involved in the game.

BF2 has been apart of my everyday life for the past year & a half. I can still remember my 1st round I ever played. Snipeing on Sharqi at contruction site/ at the time a 9800pro & 45fps. But I was so pleased to even be playing the game that my performance didnt matter, as long as it was playable.

The times when Bf2 was a wonder to play, exploring new maps & vehicles. The times where you'd find a sweet spot nobody else knew about due to the "newness" of the game, eventually it was discovered & you have played every map...the game begins to wear out, but you always find a way to keep it alive, whether its creating a new account or trying new styles of play.

I have practically traveled every inch of every map and flown every vehicle, fired every weapon & grown in the game...

Very difficult leaving BF2...

If its difficult to leave, then dont. You dont have to leave something that's like your hobby. If you are bored, play it, if you aint, dont play it. If you wanna get a bit of freshness back, take a break, for like a couple of months, 1 or 2...then come back. Should feel better. It has worked for me, with other things.

I took a 2 month break after 1.3.

Came back for 1.4 and all has been peachy. Loving IO. I was a little intimidated by the 30K gap between 1st SGT and Master, so I kinda just gave up. After a few weeks I'm not within 7.5K of ranking up. Can't wait to finally get there... that is one hell of a gap between ranks.

I have been playing this game since the day the Demo was released. I played it steadily until Febuary of last year. Thats when I quit for about 3 months or so. Eventually, I just started playing again. But now as all these new games are coming out, and so much is happening in the video game industry, I find my self drifting from BF2. CSS in my opinion just seems more fun than BF2. Although I really like BF2, I cant see my self playing it in the very near future.

I stop playing it quite a bit taking breaks, then come back here and there and play. Once IO came out, I started playing SF more. I've got over 226,000 points, but I still play from time to time.

I got 2142, hated it for the first 20 hours. Then I got into it, and realized the gameplay wasn't as bad as I had originally thought. Made brig gen, and now i'm back to my original feeling on the game, hate it.

I am at a similiar point as you, where i'm tired of the same old thing.. yet, there really isn't anything else out there that appeals enough to me to play hardcore. I guess that means I need to find a new hobby.

I'll play this until bf3, with supreme commander as my RTS which is in a free beta right now.

I know!

I played BF2 the first time at my friends house (you might know him here as Ubersturmbannfuhrer). BF2 actually  might have been the biggest thing contributing to me getting rid of my Socket-A Duron 1.8 w. 1Gb SDRAM and a radeon 9200SE, and practically building a whole new rig, just so I could play it.

I won't be stopping any time soon.

I left BF2 about 5 months ago for World of Warcraft, which is fun, but I always had that nagging voice in the back of my head.  I knew I was getting 0% of my daily recommended allowance of First Person Shooter Pwnage, until finally, I caved.  I dug through my Pile of Crap next to my computer, found my BF2 cd, and went on to play all night.  Such rollicking good fun and the Infantry Only option has breathed new life into the game, in my opinion.

I haven't been tempted to try 2142 yet but given how long it's been since I've played I just might...

Yep, I can relate to this. The addiction. The feeling of never getting enough. And there really is no other game that can match BF2. Team Fortress and CS seem banal in comparison.

Do this:
  • Don't play the same map and the same kit all the time. Try out all aspects of the game. That's the secret behind the success of BF2 (and something BF2142 will never match).
  • Don't play for stats alone. Then you will end up hating the game. Don't take stats too seriously.
  • Have other gaming interests. I have recently gone into Guild Wars (subscription-free MMO). It's more social and is a fine break from the grim realities of shooters.
  • Leave BF2 for awhile or just play on week-ends.

BF2 is going to be around for a long time. Prepare yourself for the long haul...

try out new tactics in the game, stealing enemy shit, joining a nice clan, or just taking a one month break, i got completely sick of the game and didnt touch it for one month, after that i can back and here i find myself playing as much as i did when i first got the game. A good clan to play with helps you enjoy the game alot more.

Try the expansion packs. When those get boring switch back. Many a nights I will play one round of each map in SF and then switch to BF2. I eventually plan to get AF so that should keep it interesting for at least another six months.

BF2 totally rocks
its a revolution to me....i was playing Counterstrike for about 4 years and after 4 years it was maybe time for something different...i first played CS Source but then i was considering to buy battlefield 2 and finally 2 days after christmas i did....and from that moment totally addicted...it controls my social life too sometimes lol
theres much variety in the game so it never really gets boring, i think ill be playing this game for a long time in the future, maybe when there will be a big title released someday ill be switching but its not the time i think

My interest is slightly deteriorating, but that's because I have been off the "clan scene" for a while (or rather, my clan is not picking up AT ALL). But BF2's been a damn addicting game, more so than CSS, and I cherish every great minute I've spent with it.

I remember the demo coming out. I was going to the beach the next day, for a week. The demo comes out. Websites slow down from the influx of users. I manage to get a private link and download it in 20 minutes. I played for about 45 minutes and I was stunned. It was only single player, but it was just great. I loved it, and counted the days till I could come back to my computer.

Played a lot online, fascinated by the graphics, the physics, everything. The F-35 was wonderful... ah yes, the days when the F-35 wasn't shot down by anything that glanced at it. I remember getting in the Essex and shooting everyone on deck. Good times. I had my Verizon FiOS installed around this time, and my ping was very nice too.

BF2 comes out. First map I played was Kubra Dam, or possibly Sharqi. Can't remember. I do remember slamming a plane into a dam multiple times, and blowing up a bridge multiple times on a map that was probably Sharqi. My friend, however, who I played lots of CSS with couldn't run BF2 so for the majority of Summer 2005 I played CSS. A shame really; had I used one account from 6.28.2005 (or when the demo came out), and had played feverishly over the summer, I'd probably be much higher ranked.

So school starts, and I decide to try BF2 again. Playing Zatar, screwing around in the Blackhawk, I jump and parachute out and get the parachute ribbon. Then I decided to go to the website of the first clan I had ever  joined for a game, and found their new site. This became my first clan for BF2 that I joined, Terran Forces. It was fun, people were welcoming, and I really got to learn BF2 thanks to them. The leadership wasn't the best, and I was eventually kickd out along with some other people because the leader simply didn't like us. This was when I created my first clan, which grew to be a great group of players (great as in fun, not godly skilled). This lasted for 4 months before it was disbanded, and I took a break from BF2. I got back in on March, when I upgraded my computer. High graphics, WHAT A MIRACLE!

This was when I began to get serious with BF2. I played a lot whenever I could, which was only weekends (unless I didn't have school on a weekday). I developed my skills (which still aren't uber, but they're decent). I learned the art of Medic whoring, and loved Mashtuur. I formed my second clan, Team Swift (originaly DNA). This was another great clan of mine, with some guys from my old clan. Lots of hours spent into the wee morning playing BF2 with them. Such a great group of folks... one guy left work to attend a TWL match this one time. We weren't great in TWL either, but nonetheless we had fun. But financial problems arose for me, and I handed leadership over to the guy who had left work once. It went well for a few weeks but then it was disbanded.

So now I float on, in the quest for Master Gunnery Sergeant. I've gotten some nice awards during this time, and I'm still trying to find (right now, trying to create) a place that was as fun as my first clans. BF2's given me over 700 hours of playtime. $50 (Well, $100 counting boosters and expansions) for all of this? Fantastic if you ask me. 2142 is fun, and I got it at half-off price so that's good. But BF2 is just so much more right now, it feels so much more immersive, and it's just great. I have never been fans of EA and DICE since they started butchering the game, but I have to hand it to them... they've designed one damn good video game. I can only hope that the next current-day combat BF game will be even better than BF2.
