Ok, so Saturday I started up BF2 to kill some time. Joined a server, spawned, and then was immediately dropped to the game selection menu, with a dialog stating "Your connection to the server has been lost". I figured the server crashed or something, so I picked another server, joined it, and... the same thing happens. I tried 2 more servers, with the same results, decided my ISP must be having some trouble, and went on about my business.

I didn't get a chance to play again until Monday night, so I start up BF2 (having completely forgotten about the problems from Saturday), join a server, spawn, and.. Yup, you guessed it, game selection menu, with the same message as before. On the advice of a friend I reinstall the 1.41 patch (which had been working fine since whenever it was installed,  2 weeks ago?), and he gives me the IP for the server he is on, now I get a message stating that I can't connect, and I need to check my network settings. I'm on teamspeak, so I know my internet connection is working, I can ping the server he's on, so WTH?

Today, I try again. Same thing. So I wipe the game and reinstall it. Same thing. I can play single player just fine, I can start my own multiplayer server and play just fine, but as soon as I join a server out in the world, I get disconnected. I haven't been able to find any information on something like this in these forums, or anywhere else, and EA's support is worthless on it's best day. I'd appreciate any insight anyone has.

I'm not being kicked, I'm not banned from any servers, so that's not it... I'm at a loss for what the problem could be.

Thanks

Thought of that already.   All the correct ports are open, so far as I can tell. Unless there's an updated list of the ports that need to be open. Which I hadn't considered...

are you having any other issues with your internet connection?  have you turned off any bittorrents or anything like that before loading up bf2?

Set you computer in your DMZ zone to see if you get the same issue.  Also, turn off any antivirus software when you are playing to see if that solves the issue.

Here is a very important question, What changed on your system from the last time that you were able to play until Saturday?  Did you install, update, or uninstall any software? If so, could there be a very remote possiblity that it would effect BF2?

No other issues whatsoever. I have no packet loss on my local network or out to the world (tested to various places, inlcuding a couple of the servers I have "lost connection" to.

That is a great idea and one I hadn't tried. I will do that momentarily.

Nothing, to the best of my knowledge. I played Friday night for a few hours, went to bed, nobody touched the computer until I got on Saturday afternoon to kill time before getting my girl from work. My antivirus may have updated, but I can't see that causing this sort of trouble...

Thank for reply.

After send my post i Try one thing. Shutdown computer. Disconnect power plug. Waiting for all device drain out. Re-plug. Restart. Set BF2 to Cable connection (in option). Try to connect on any server. Result : work fine now.

I read the whole thing, but it looks like your original post is the only thing with any (semi-)relevant info...

I've tried a lot of stuff since my last post, so here's my update:

Tried putting this machine in the DMZ, no effect, still drops connection after random period.

Bypassed router entirely, put computer on public internet, no effect, still drops connection after random period.

Installed USB wireless adapter in this machine, no effect, still drops connection after random period.

Changed setting from t1/LAN to 256k cable, no effect, still drops connection after random period. t1/LAN seems to be the better option to me anyway, as my internet connection is effectively a 10Mbit ethernet connection.

Had a friend log into my account from his machine, he was able to play for over an hour as me.

So it's definitely not an account issue. The only thing I have left is a random hardware issue on my desktop, or an internet connectivity problem, neither of which shows up anywhere else except in BF2. Talk about your frustrating problems...
