Apparently, not only can you overhead smash your light fixtures as Fancy pointed out, you can throw your remote through the tv.

Mentioned at the end of the article is "its only a matter of time before a sue-happy person is hit with a remote".

The Wii is touted as the "family fun machine" by Nintendo rather than a "mature" console as the 360 or PS3 are marketed as. But is Wii the most dangerous?

I read that playing the Wii takes just slight hand movements to perform the necessary on-screen actions. Are these Wii users getting a little out of hand with the manuerisms required to play?

Disclaimer: Use of this system could result in damage to your personal belongings, including light fixtures, televisions, windows, pictures of granny and other breakables in the general vicinity.  These things will occur if you flail your arms wildly during gameplay.  Please refrain from being a spaz while using the Wii system.

No suit of that sort would go anywhere. The only way you break anything is when you LET GO OF THE CONTROLER.

PA did a comic about this: http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2006/11/29

and nintendo has instructions for how to be safe: http://www.nintendo.com/consumer/wiiplay.jsp

Basically, Step 1: Do not let go.

Actually if you read that McDonalds case it is rather interesting.  They sued McDonalds for serving the coffee to hot.  They served the coffee so hot that if spilled on your skin it will cause it to peel off.

Now for the Wii, someone in California will sue Nintendo.  Because it doesn't matter there, if your product injures or kills someone you're still liable, even if you did everything humanly possible to make sure you're product was safe.

How come anytime something like this happens the first thing people think about is filing a lawsuit against someone

It's easy money. Cheap but legal. Besides, how hard is it to make a half-reliable strap?

How hard is it to not let go? C'mon, don't blame this on the strap.

well the straps got a slider that'll move after a certain amount of force on the strap, that's the f'n problem. It could easily be fixed by putting a wrist strap which is tightened by velcro or tied.

Sweet, Nintendo will keep me in business when I get my JD.

On a side note, if you get those plastic remote covers, you retain a much better grip on the remote.

Nope, they sued McDonalds because McDonalds was keeping the coffee hotter than they was legally allowed, and they got  high-degree burns which they had to end up paying for.  It was a perfectly okay case..... nothing stupid at all.

edit- ty stags for already pointing that out

parents and non-gamers are dangerous on any console, just put your mother behind a racing game and give her a controller.
youll see that she is wazing the controller all over the place thinking it makes the racecar obey her

so the point is: its not the wii, its the people handling it

LOL...  that reminds me so much of the Mac vs. PC ads...  It's like people buy both the Wii and Macs for image only.

Granted, I'd probably get the Wii if I actually played console stuff, since it's the only system that has games that don't usually come out for the PC.  I mean, why would I want to play the XBOX 360 version of a game that I can also play on my PC (which will look and play a shitload better on my PC)?
