Me personally I would rather see the 1 billion dollar missles and this 128 million go to cancer research. Instead of chasing shadows.
Sorry bud but cancer research is nothing but a money maker. They already have cures. But do you really think they will mass market them or release them when you can make billions a year in research grants?

Cmon, I mean id be all for cancer research if it were real, Ive had most of my family die of it already. But i have to be realistic here.

So the drastic increase in cancer survivability (classed as living 5 years or more after diagnosed) isn't real? In the UK survival rates for cancer are up to over 70% for some types of cancer, I can't imagine it being lower than that in the US. Lung cancer is the worst one these days with only about a 10% survivability probability. But most forms the chances are better than 50/50.

That's an improvement, cancer research yields results. Maybe not as many as quickly as we might want, but definate results nevertheless.

Yes.  In order to understand the effects of these weapons, we need to do research and experiments on them.  Why you ask?  So when some nutjob sets one off in times square, we will be better prepared on how to deal with it.
So when China follows suit and sets up it's own biological weapon development and testing centre you'll be just fine with that?

....
of course, china never would have started a bio-weapons program had we not done so first, what were we thinking!!!

let me guess, the aliens told them the cure for cancer at Roswell while they were planning to assassinate JFK in order to blow up the world trade centre.

Present evidence that China is developing bioweaponry.

So you're all for wasting vast amounts of money developing a threat that currently doesn't exist and there's no evidence that anyone else is trying to create? You don't care that this give every nation the equal right to develop their own nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs? If the USA can develop bioweapons then Iran can develop nukes. You're also not bothered that through an accident/sabotage/theft, the stuff they will be producing has the potential to destroy the human race?

It doesn't bother you that there's buildings in the USA that contain some of the most deadly organisms ever, and there's a whole lot of terrorists that hate Americans and have a history of flying planes into buildings......

I live within an hour of the CDC, which already houses the deadliest plagues known to man, but i feel safer because i know that i'm close to the best agency in the universe to deal with it.

you need to come up with a better argument than: "the only reason country X is developing weapon X is that the US already developed weapon X". it's circular logic at best. though i am flattered that you think we are the only nation capable of developing such feats of technology and intelligence, thank you.

you know, assuming your house has never been broken into before, don't bother locking the door, since you have seen no indication that anyone will break in. never been in a car wreck? don't bother wearing a seatbelt.

WOW your on much better drugs than i am. My point is, the release of treatments and The survival rate increase dont coincide with the amounts of money being used to research cancer. As i said My slow friend, Most of my family members have died of cancer, youngest are twins of only 3 years. My cousin, my best friend died years ago at the age of 12, so please Keep the smart ass comments to yourself. Honestly if your going to believe in ANY conspiracy theories, Thinking the drug companies would release cures and lose that kind of money in a world fueled by the almighty dollar and who can make more, truly is naive thinking bud.
cancer has hit alot closer to home than you might know, lets just say im a 3 year survivor of prostate cancer. The ONLY reason why is because they found it early enough, no wonder drug was used.

Erm, I thought you were arguing against what I said? As you said, the USA is only developing bioweapons because they think someone else will develop them so I agree, they need to come up with a better reason for disregarding international conventions put in place by countries INCLUDING the USA to stop exactly what the USA are now doing.

As with most bilogical pathogens, the way to stop them is dependant on the specific pathogen you are looking at, so any way they find to stop the bioweapons they make will almost certainly be worthless as there's no reason that this mystery group that are making bioweapons will make the same ones. It's like making a life jacket and saying "This saved me from drowning, so I'll assume it'll save me from this fire".

There wasn't an international ban on developing WMDs just for the hell of it.

There have been statements by senior Chinese defence officials that suggest China is conducting biological weapons research. One claim made is that they are researching weapons that will not affect Chinese troops because of their genetic make up, personally I think such a weapon is still strictly in the realm of science fiction and will not be seen for many, many years.

No.

The reason cancer is so damned hard to fight is because it isn't some foreign invading organism, it's you. You are making cells that are almost identical to the healthy ones, but they are killing you. The difference is so minuscule that specifically targeting cancerous cells without harming the rest is a massive challenge. There are also huge numbers of different types of cancerous cells that will not react in the same way to the same treatment. If your treatment targets cancerous liver tissue and you have a brain tumor it won't do you much good. If a drug company developed a wonder drug that cured cancer they can be guaranteed 1.3 million treatments every year in the US alone, tens of millions of treatments world wide each year. They'd gain a ridiculous brand loyalty and eternal fame. But of course I wouldn't know that because I'm slow apparently....
