Now there we can agree, Silk is great. Never tried almond milk though.IRONCHEF wrote:
I'm also used to my almond milk or chocolate SILK soy milk! That is some goooood shit if you people haven't tried it yet! It's some serious num nums.
i make my own almond milk on occasion. 3 cups of organic almonds, a gallon of purified water....soy milk maker...mix with brown rice syrup and a pinch of sea salt...chill and...num nums! Every vitamin preserved and usable, every antioxidant applied into blood stream, and the almond mulch left in the milk machine can be used in pan cakes, bread, or other healthy foods.
That milk sounds perfect for good coffeeIRONCHEF wrote:

I'm puzzled though, if you don't like milk that's fine...
...but suggesting there are any negative health implications from drinking milk is ludicrous, unless your talking about someone who drinks litres of the stuff a day. We can always post links with biased opinions that favour ours, as follows...IRONCHEF wrote:
Hi, I'm Ironchef and I hate cow milk. I have been off the life-long bad habit of drinking it for 2 years now. Though I still eat cheese, yogurt, and some other dairy products, I do not and cannot drink cow milk..even organic. I tried not too long ago and it just grossed me out..

The almond milk does sound good though, and the cake too
Edit: Now I know why you don't like milk...

lol, it's not just those links I listed, it's been something i've observed over the years in MSM, in local press, and from educated people (and not so educated people). There's a reason soy products are gaining market share..they're healthy. And in places where health food reigns (SF Bay Area may lead the nation), it's not a surprise anymore to see as many alternatives to cow milk as there are ceral choices. If you go to major supermarkets here, you'll see an equal amount of non-dairy milk as there is cow milk. It's not just trendy either...it's because of demand due to the health aspect. Once people learn that the dairy council pays for positive "findings" or overinflates other findings, aggressively (like Walmart aggression) suppressing competitor ad space (Oprah magazine is a good example...where there's tons of ads for dairy..none for soy products because dairy has taken up all the available spots).
Sure it sounds petty..after all, it's just milk, right? But when you realize that some of the common things you consume may actually contribute to some of the problems you're having..then you'd be a fool to ignore it. And if it's something easy to control (like trying out soy milk or some other alternative), why wouldn't you?
I read this claim from some health site and put it to the test. It was 100% accurate in my experimentation so I told my wife. She likewise noticed the difference.
By just switching from dairy milk to non-dairy milk you will begin to feel less bloated, more energetic, more clear-headed and healthier. After a few days, the improvement in health can be dramatic, particularly for asthmatics and people with congested airways.
We were cautious about yanking milk from our baby girl because hey, babies drink milk, right? Well, as we investigated more, gathering medical opinion, pediatric and lactation specialist opinion..and of course online sources..we decided there was NO benefit from cow milk for our child. We'd still give her calcium rich foods and other dairy products like yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, etc because there's many other things there that are needed. She doesn't get sick as much, runny noses stopped running longer..etc, etc..i've said it a few times before..no need to repeat.
Anyway, just a little history there so people don't think i suddenly WIKI'd milk or something to stir up fights on the boards! lol

SILK rocks
Why fight milk itself, why not fight for regulations on farmers? Regulating corporate farmers would go a long way to making not only milk, but beef more healthy. I'm sorry, but I'm not in a position to seek substitutes for something I consume every single day. Besides, milk is healthy from a healthy cow, so your beef (punny) is with the farmers, not the milk.
As for lowering cholesterol, you can do a lot more for your heart and waistline by consuming whole grains and kicking refined flours, and you can do it more conveniently than by kicking milk.

Doctor supported my move to soy milk to lower cholesterol. It worked. Dermatologist supported migration from flamatory cow milk to soy milk to improve psoriasis inflamation. It worked. I eat grains all day, and sometimes make milk from it (almond, oat, rice) and it obviously helps me.jonsimon wrote:

I'm not fighting milk or telling anyone to do what I did. I did ask that people consider some logic and possibly see what I saw in milk. If you KNEW milk was actually doing bad things to your body, and if you understood the lies of the dairy ads, you'd probably question and possibly modify your consumption, wouldn't you?
And yes, requiring dairy farmers to adhere to organic standards (and actually do it like a small majority actually do), that would make things better. Beef too. Good point.

has anyone else ever heard of the A4 'Miracle' Milk?
Sorry to be off topic, but I just want to say; I finish a gallon of milk every two days.
We drink it because for centuries water was not a healthy alternative.Superior Mind wrote:

When I was in Paris (France), the milk I got from "Monoprix" was great. It had great flavor, didn't feel particularly "heavy" or anything. I'm no law scholar, but I think the EU has very strict regulations on the conditions that milking cows live in and what you can give them (I think they've outright banned giving hormones to cows). I'm sure if the FDA in the US made such regulations, then milk wouldn't be as "bad" as Chef makes it out to be.
I wanna try out some Silk though, it sounds pretty good.

So... I just drank another pint of my lovely British milk, I also had a nice ice cold glass this morning.
Strangely enough I'm not dead yet.

wow a crusade against milk
next time they'll ban bread, and then maybe chocolate, and then god knows what else
and in 50 yrs we'll all be eating pills and drinkin distilled water because everything else is unhealthy
guess what, i've never seen anyone dying because of milk...

Just one thing to remember, Soy milk can be rich in calcium when added with the mineral, however it lacks something only Milk has, and those are essential Amino-Acids only found in milk.
