AF/EF Booster DVD

Apparently EA didn't anticipate anyone would actually purchase and try to use the DVD this weekend. I installed the update yesterday, but still cannot connect to a AF/EF server. I get an error that I "need to purchase the download before I can play". So I open a ticket with EA. They send me a link on where to go to update my downloads. OK... so I call them. Tell them I have the DVD, they want to know why the game isn't showing on my download screen on my EA account... now I'm starting to feel confused.

So they e-mail me a resolution. Go to this link, fill in three boxes easy right!? Except that one of the boxes is for the "pre-paid code". Ummm... OK... I tried the CD key in here. Get a nice big red error.

Call them back. Same thing. Why isn't AF/EF in your downloads? You purchased the DVD? Are you sure you registered it? Yes it's showing on my EA account. Have you tried associating your account name to the booster... yes, but I can't do that because I don't have a pre-paid code. And why don't you have a pre-paid code sir? Because I went to the store and bought the DVD.

I've never heard of this before sir. I'm going to write this up and send this off to a different group...

Yes I had problems with this CD. The pre-paid code IS the (CD code located on the back of the Booster Pack instruction book.)code you need to put in the box. The problem is you need to go into your EA account and switch it to your gamespy account or something to that sort. It does work do not give up do a search on the EA forums for the exact error it is giving you. I was frustrated to hell and I know what I am doing with computers. I feel sorry for the people that buy that and have 0 knowledge with computers. I will try and help as much as I can give me the errors your getting.

2142 is so slow feeling... Just cant get into it. All the knew medals and point system is ok but then I feel like I am playing World Of Warcraft or something.

All the forum has to help with the error that I am getting: "You cannot join/create this server without having purchased and installed the Booster Pack. Press the button below to buy the Booster Pack". The only info on the EA forum about this error message is that you either need to purchase the booster pack, or update your EA account. But even when you call EA, they want to know why it's not in your downloads.

I've tried deleting my local account, and having it retrieved. No luck. The AF/EF servers show up in white now, so I am able to select them, but I just can't play. The booster pack shows up on my EA account, so they first level support has no idea what to do.

Ok I understand that what happens when you try put the code in the pre-paid code area? That was the problem I had I kept putting it in and it would error out. Everything showed installed and once I tried joining a game I would get the exact same error you had recieved. Then when I tried putting the code in the pre-paid area it would error out. I just dont remember what the exact error it would give me was at that time.

Did you try some of these steps:

Yeah but I get an error when I try the CD key in the pre-paid field too. I've tried it with and without the dashes.

I've tried all of the recommendations on the link you sent. That's why I was desperate enough to actually call EA and try to talk to someone.

Yes frustrating I know trying to call EA. It has to do with your original BF2 account name being associated with the email you gave them with that account. I went to :

Now on the top right under worldwide it says get into the nation. Login to that account that has your BF2 username. And then manage account for whatever reason mine would NOT show the damn DVD I just downloaded on the account. EA did not make the DVD like the others they used the damn downloader registration instead of using some common sense and just using a key like all the other CD's. So actually it was NO easier buying the damn dvd then just downloading it from them. The downloader is still a headache and now they shipped the DVD the same way technically.

You need to associate your BF2 gamespy account with your EA account. I had all sorts of issues doing this I am really trying to help but I do not remember exactly what I did I am trying to go through it again but unfortunatley I already have it installed now. Log into your EA Nation account and if it does not have the downloads info this is where the problem lies.

In the EA Account > My info you have

Member INfo | Billing INfo | Subsciption INfo | DOWNLOADS INFO | My Games

As an update...

EA recommended that I un-install/delete all files/folders from my PC associated to BF2 (and all expansions). Then install BF2, install SF, patch, install EF or AF, patch, install the remainder EF or AF and patch again. This was a waste of about 3 hours of my life. First off, when you install the DVD, you don't get an option to install either AF/EF, it just installs then runs the 1.4 patch.

I'm starting to think (obviously) that there is a serious problem with the installer. When I re-loaded EF/AF I noticed that it never prompts for the CD key. Probably why it never registers.

Still waiting for EA to come back with a new response. Will probably be back on the phone with them tomorrow night.

EA should put more effort into the actual GAME rather than putting all their effort into preventing the game from being pirated. They're so good at it that even legitimate copies don't work.

I see the maps there in single player, but I get the "purchase game" message. So i guess some of it installed.

Edit: Has anyone that bought the disc (AF & EF booster collection) at the store gotten the durned thing to work?
If so, how??

A tip before installing: set IE as your default browser. I read somewhere that after installation, a internet page to enter your code should pop up, but does not if you don't have IE set up as the default browser.

And maybe patching 1.41 after installing should help.

I'd read the installation notes in the manual.

I bought the DVD the other day, didn't have a problem with it. After you install there is a link in the manual you have to go to to input your BF2 account, the pre-paid code which I believe is the code on the back of the manual and I think you have to type in your password but I forget. Tomorrow when I've actually got some sleep I'll go over the steps again and post it here. I've been able to play it since I installed.

Oh one more thing, it reinstalls 1.4 so I had to reinstall 1.41 after it finished.

I just got off the phone (again) with EA support. Apparently my issue has been passed on to their account department. They can't understand how the game is showing as registered by me, but still not showing in my downloads tab.

I've had the booster for a week now, and they say it could take another 48 hours to get another response.
