The pope is reviewing the church's stance on the use of condoms. With AIDS spreading faster and faster, they are now going over the bible to see if there might be loophole of sorts to allow the use of condoms afterall.
I personally am glad that they are finally slowly starting to admit that they are wrong, it's a good start.
What are your thoughts about this?

Seriously though, I don't think so. Just because Catholics "are allowed" to use them doesn't mean all of them will use them at all times (you know what I mean).

But maybe now many people might actually use comdoms because they no longer have that religious dilemma...

Monty Python FTW

DAD:
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!

I never saw the logic in infecting your partner with death (while you know you have aids, for example) because a book says you can't do anything to prevent it from happening. If the church comes to the conclusion that they are allowed and there are still people who don't use them on purpose and still infect people knowingly, they either should be shot or put in jail for (attempted) murder.

Most countries have come to that conclusion too, as far as I know.

Many countries which have state and religion seperated have realized that HIV/AIDS is a big concern for public health. Thank those people for not listening to some book which says nay!

Now, if we can just convince African men that raping a virgin won't magically cure/protect them from HIV well be one step closer to overpopulating the planet.

For someone who's so concerned about Africa, you don't seem to know alot about the issues.  Like the fact that at the moment the issue isn't funding and programs, it's ground level awareness.  It doesn't matter what the government thinks, the general populace don't agree.

I've never understood that whole thing. I mean if you believed in god, and believed that god is all-powerful, wouldn't you also believe that if god wanted her knocked up she would be - franger or no?

Why would they have anything in the Bible about this particular issue? They didn't exist yet. We migth as well look through the Bible to see if we can even use computers.

Yeah, that has confused me somewhat. I can't think of a specific area of the Bible that dictates that you can't use them. There's no logical reason as to why they would say that you can't. Perhaps if it indeed says something about wasting sperm, it has more to do with masturbation or something like that?

Ehm! Condoms excist longer then you think.
The ancient Egyptians already used condoms. And that is well before Jesus his time.

It's always amusing when the church realises it's made a huge and unpopular mistake and then tries to backtrack on itself.

Given the current track record we should expect them to reach the same decision that most of everyone else reached in approximately 300 years.

It says something about sex not being for pleasure, with a condom you have no intention of making a baby => pleasure!

Yeah, like they used the bible to decide not to use condoms in the first place? lol  And with the spread of aids, do they not get that it's 99% of the time a sexually transmitted disease?  By supporting condom use, they are encouraging infidelity/fornication.  Talk about contradicting....  Sounds like a smoke screen to allow people to control birth rate.

lol hahaha the Catholic church does not base all of its decisions from the bible. the Catholic Church does not and will never condone any use of contraceptive devices. The Church holds to its view that sexual interaction is for propagation only... so dream on its not gona change...

1. All the world's problems will not be solved by latex.  Condoms don't prevent AIDS transmission.
2. I have found nothing in the Bible that convinces me that birth control is immoral or that sex is not for pleasure. (read Song of Solomon in the Bible hellooooo he's enjoying his wife's breasts and legs etc etc) Priests who aren't supposed to be having sex tell their congregations sex is not for pleasure to make themselves feel better about not getting any. Our Creator would not have given us the ability to gain pleasure from sex, if was only for reproduction.
3. Sex using a condom is not more pleasurable. Duh.
