You guys have to understand, dynamic advertising is going to be in almost EVERY game within a few years. It's not something you can stop by boycotting EA or not playing BF2142. If you wanna find a reason to not play the game, fine with me, but if ads are your reason, you just being stupid.
Who, *looks around* me?
Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
Only thing I look around for is people to shoot, half the time get shot in the process, lol.

In game adds are no big deal. People just want an excuse to hate the game and when the game is as good as BF2142 they have trouble coming up with reasonable ones.
Ads aren't even ingame yet.......
Dynamic ads can be done but in a different way. You could tell the customer that you have X amount of players that play the game each week. You then tell them that you will have the ad "run" for a certain amount of days for a given amount of money. This is sort of how TV and radio ads work.Elamdri wrote:

I aint seen many not lovin it just for the ads - yes a few hatin on the ads in general but most peeps I know who aint diggin it just dont think its anything but a techno/futuristic mod of BF2 with nothing new worth paying for.doctastrangelove1964 wrote:

If you love it great, fantastic, but many of us just dont see anything new in it or dont like techno/futuristic games and prefer more historicall/realistic games. Frankly in another universe I could believe the games were relesed the other way arround and I would be the one leaving BF2142 to play the new game BF2.

I agree with you. The consumer sees nothing from the ads. EA stated that it was due to the high cost of creating a game. There are good games out that are free, and they do not have ads in them. Hero Online comes to mind. The user still has to pay about $50 USD, to get a game that is full of ads. The savings are not transferred to the consumer, that is one of the things that upset me, and why I am boycotting EA. I think that it is more of a ethical thing, rather then an ads in a game thing.joker3327 wrote:

hmm... let me see if I get you guys correctly.. you do not want to pay full price for bf2142 because it has ads? don't you pay to watch TV? don't you pay for your Internet? don't you pay for any magazines? all of these things and many many more have a lot more ads then bf2142.. and still you are whining because a game has ads?
since when do you need permission to show people ads? If you want to live up to what you just said.. you will have to go blindfolded the rest of your life.. because guess what, ads are all around you and nobody asked for your permission to show them to you...FFS its advertising without your explicit permission
If I pay for something I want to have the choice....like I do with my TV license like I do with my service provider..like I do with my software..... I have a choice...with EA you dont get the choice you pay full price for them to use your system to get revenue from advertising....kmjnhb wrote:

I do not love the adds but I do not see how they detract from the gameplay and want other people to see the same.KylieTastic wrote:

agreed, its pretty bad that YOU the consumer gets to pay for ads. But its a win win for EAdubbs wrote:

Here's the thing you boycotting suckas don't get. Hundereds of thousands of people will play this game. The game will be bought for $50, pretty traditional exchange. Now take for example, World of Warcraft. Pay $50, and then $15 a month JUST TO BE ABLE TO PLAY IT. You can make the ranked servers arguement, but 1) EA is not seeing much of those revenues, it goes mostly to the service providers and actual hosting companies, and 2) 99% of people who play BF2142 will never drop a god damned cent on a ranked server, you will just play the pubbies.
If anything, you should be grateful it's not a pay-to-play game. The P2P model has seen increased success in the past few years, and I'm sure it'd be successful with a FPS. The only way to keep good revenue rolling in after launch is by having someone (in this case, advertisers) pay up.
This is also going to move EA to keep people on the servers, and thus, I expect better patching this time around, otherwise they'll lose advertising dollars for sticking their thumb up the ass of what could be their easiest cash cow yet. The investment has been made: BF2142 has been released. By putting a small amount of maintenance in it, they can keep a viable source of income coming in for years, if they want.
And I seriously hope none of you boycott suckas is a waiter by profession. Not wanting ads is like not tipping after a meal. Yeah, you payed the full price, but these days the full price doesn't cover everything. The last time blockbuster game was less than $50 on launch is longer than I can remember, and input costs are rising.
Suck it up, and if you live in America, throw up a cheer for capitalism. It's enterprising minds finding a way to increase revenues without damaging the value to the consumer. EVERYONE wins. If you don't like BF2142 for the ads, you must hate capitalism.
If you hate capitalism, you must hate America.
And if you hate America, then the terrorists have already won.
And if you say "The Right To Be Informed," I'll donkey punch you. There is a slip inside that states that by installing you give express consent. It's packaged with the product. Thus, you're informed.

Are you even familiar with the Consumer's Bill of Rights? They've done nothing to violate it. And at the end of the day, caveat emptor.joker3327 wrote:

either Im blind or these bilboards aren't even there because all the billboards already feature stff on em, Im begining to think that the ads will be in the game menu as to not take away from the atmosphere
And how were they found out? Oh yeah by the paper in the box. It's not like they were trying to keep it a secret and someone who was looking at the code said "hey wait! their's ads in this game." and EA's response was "Oh yeah did we forget to mention that to you?"joker3327 wrote:

The reason why they didn't put the warning on the box might have been because the boxes were already printed when the decision to put the ads in there was made. So instead of throwing out the millions of boxes already printed they just printed a leaflet to put inside.
Oh and on your lease does it ask your permission to advertise on billboards that you can see from your apartment?
When you pay for a seat at a sporting event, do they ask if they can put advertisements all over the place?
Heck, when you buy a car, do they ask you if they can slap a sicker on there advertising the dealership?
its the only way EA can get money
i like the idea ingame ads... they would make it feel realistic. instead of just "fizz cola" and "crunch! chips"
I'm not sure why people are so razzed up about in-game ads. If anyone has played SWAT4 multiplayer, you'll notice there are a lot of ads in there, both real and fake. Has my computer been attacked with malicious spyware? NO, it hasn't. Did the ads ruin the gameplay? Of course not. I'm not sure when the ads in 2142 will start kicking in for me, because i haven't seen any yet. Advertisements are a part of America. We are a capitalist country. If you don't like Ads, don't even turn on your TV, don't access the internet, don't listen to the radio, don't read any magazines, just stay inside your house.
