on a 10/22, you can swap out any part you like.
trigger, barrel, stock, springs. pretty much everything short of the serial number.

personally, i just own a 10/22T.
heavier barrel, no iron sights, and an adjustable stock.

Ruger 10/22 is the AR-15 of the rimfire rifles.
Meaning, everybody and their brother's dog makes aftermarket parts for it, and it's as easy to change parts as an AR-15.

As a kid, I put thousands upon thousands of rounds through a Ruger 10/22.
Grasshoppers and golf balls were the two most prevalent targets.

Most likely will not be modifying, what types of things would typically be swapped out?  Today shot a buddy's Remington Sportster Model 552 given to him by his grandpa.  15 shot tubular, semi-auto and I liked it very much.  My 8 year old son put about 100 rounds through it and took to it easily using iron sights.  Looked the up online and they're a bit more pricey than 10/22 or Model 60.

As stated above, you can change just about anything you want, short of the serial number.
I just switch out magazines, put on new sights or a scope.  (I'm not into extreme precision or anything.  Mine is just a plinker.)

Those 25 round magazines are fun with steel targets.

Taking this out today with the Kimber. Still haven't shot it yet. Been messing around with the Colt and LaRue all week.

That is a very oddly pretty gun Dilbert.

Not especially, its not a big trigger guard but then in ISSF shooting you start with your finger on the trigger so there's no need for a big trigger guard.

The trigger is movable and could probably go a centimetre back for those with banana fingers, or a different trigger could be fitted if need be.

Glad to see LaRue picked up the SMOS Brothers lower receiver design.

Saw the SMOS branded receiver on RainierArms a few years ago, really liked it.
Was rather disappointed I never picked one up before they disappeared.

I prefer Ruger 10/22s.  As others have said you can replace/upgrade every single part and piece of a 10/22, whether it's a titanium extractor or a green and orange laminate stock.  Ruger's 10 round rotary magazine is the best in the business and good 25 round magazines are also available.  If you want to keep iron sights, the best upgrade you can do is install a set of TRS100 tech-sights which gives you an AR style post and aperture and an 8" longer sight radius.

If you're considering a bolt action rimfire your best bet is a CZ 452.
