In response to: Republicans Thread by Dezerteagal5, an attempt to poll the number of Republicans on these forums, without the actual mechanism of a poll. And yes, I know there's there's at least four socialist parties in America.

My votes are almost evenly distributed between Democrats and Republicans (more often Rep), with the occasional rare Libertarian vote, if I see a candidate who has a chance to win. I don't consider myself affiliated with any party, but receive mail from a few.

I sort of float between republican and libertarian as the candidates allow, but as the libertarians have no viable options nor seem willing to for a while I stick with repub for the poll

Vote for the politician who has the best soundbites and stirringly patriotic rhetoric. They're usually best. The more flags in the background when you see the candidate the better. It shows he's more patriotic than the others. Also - make sure your preferred candidate has made a speech stating that 'we will unconditionally stand with Israel always and forever".

Lol... I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not...

But on a serious note, I generally dont vote for parties, I always vote for the PERSON who I think can best serve my intrests. I know that in some matters party politics take presidence over personal opinion (at least this is the case in my country), and in those cases the person will be forced to vote for the party line. I can accept that as long as the politician in question chooses to try to CHANGE the party line to something that he feels is better not only for him and the voters, but also for the party as a whole.
In the past I have voted almost every which way but communist (ok, I haven't voted EITHER extreme end of the scale to be fair). And I dont see that as changing in the future.
Choosing which candidate to vote for is IMO a LOT of work, finding out what their stands are on certain issues that concern me, how well they have performed in the past etc. etc.
I know that few voters put in as much effort as me and most just vote what they did last time, or look at the campaign slogns, and vote the one that sounds best. IMO those people should not be allowed to vote at ALL !

Democrats and republicans are both the same party at this time. Neither have shown enough leadership to either put good idea's into motion or maybe they just can't come up with good idea's. MHO on most politicians is that they have a good thing, make plenty of money and can vote for pay increases for themself, so why change. Also if they keep it a two party system they can keep riding the wave of plenty and have no real need to make changes.
I'm traditionaly conservative in my views as in less government so I voted for Libertarian even though I do like a lot of the Green parties ideas. So I voted Libertarian even though if they start to gain any kind of momention it's going to take a long time for there policy's to start taking effect..

I've never voted straight party line myself, in fact, i'm probably going to vote jim marshall again for congress, even though Bush flew into town tuesday to stump for his opponent mac collins, I'm just having a hard time pulling up unadulterated info on their voting records, everything i manage to google is presented with a little twist one way or the other, I do know that when marshall was our mayor he whooped ass and chewed bubble gum til he ran out of bubble gum, and helped the city alot, collins is sort of an unknown

If a party encompassed everything i believed in, I still wouldn't join it because being in a political party limits you..and labels you. I dont' think the organizational aspect of political parties serves the purpose they think they're after. It's too evident that each party is more negative and oppressive than positive and progressive.

For governor, I will vote for Schwarzenegger (semi-R) because Angelides is total sleeze who in about 9 out of 10 adds only attacks and even lies about his opponent and not once has he said what he would do differently. Arnold's ads have represented him well and mildly attacked angelides..but at least he's honest and resolute on his issues.

For president, that's a no brainer..no more brainless stupors sitting in the white house. And if there were a worthy repbulican, i could be swayed to vote for one, but i highly doubt it so i will likely vote dem for president...especially if dems don't take the house, there should be one as president just to give some balance and accountability.

I think this would have been better formed were there more microscopic gradients within democratic and republican. To say that there is only one kind of democrat and one republican simply perpetuates the black/white extremes that exist. It is an idealogical spectrum. As the name implies, there are infinite gradients within this. I would have to say I'm a republican, but that doesn't mean I am against gay marriage and abortion.

To make such an absolute poll without even a cursory definition on what you are saying defines these categories seems likely to not accomplish much. Titles are meaningless without definition. Definition is pointless without some measure of absolute position.

Don't you think it's a little racist that the majority of the population of blacks in america votes democrat? It's like they don't even care about what their candidate's "platform" is. I traditionally vote republican, but I'd probably vote Libertarian if they ever had a realistic shot at winning. Plus, most people are a "one-issue" vote, like take abortion for instance. Whatever side is against it, or for it, that's who they're going to vote for...irregardless if their other platforms were also for nuclear war burning flags at soldiers funerals.
