Most of you Military enthusiasts know that robots are becoming more commonplace on the battlefield.

How long before we see a 'Video Game War' where nearly all our soldiers are safely at military facilities in the United States, fighting a war with robots overseas?

Don't think its possible? Its coming.

What ramifications would this have if a war could be fought with no casualties on your side? How will this desensitize War?

What about Robots that are also Human Controlled?

It can do most of the work with the help of a soldier telling it what to do..

if it's a robot, it is controlled by a human who hopefully has reason and compassion.

if it's an automaton, it will be a cold blooded killing machine, unable to be reasoned with, programmed with rage rather than compassion. sweet.

There are several things to consider here:

1. Robots are complex tools. They can be disabled, worn down, and ultimately require maintenance. Additionally, there is a danger of robots being converted, or outright turned into useless hunks of metal by some countermeasure technology or another. EMP would be a great danger. Therefore, you still need boots on the ground, on-site.
2. Personnel giving (to simplify things) push-button confirmation for lethal actions would retain human reason and compassion in combat decisions. It wouldn't be very fair, but when was war ever such?
3. In a Terminator/Dune scenario, robots given too much independance turn on their creators. Therefore, wouldn't it be better to keep developing human-dependant technologies and, eventually, the brain itself to keep automation to a minimum?

There will never be a replacement for live soldiers. If anything I can see troops that have been augmented mechanically or electronically, but still retain full cognition.
