Stevie Ray Vaughn should be in there, perhaps not the best, but should be in the conversation.

Best or not I dont know, but my favs are zakk Wylde and Dimebag Darrel.
Lol @ people who said "Esteban". I hope you haven't bought his guitar. Vai and Satch FTW, screw Hendrix.

I'm noticing a lack of love for the guys who can work the acoustics. I tell yo again to watch my video I posted on page 4. Lindsay Buckinham never ceases to amaze me.
Also, I just thought I'd mention:
Eric Clapton. Yeah. He hasn't recieved a mention so far. Kind of criminal to leave him out.

We forgot about Skwisgaar Skwigelf, fastest guitarist alive.
I said Vai, but Satch is also one of my heroes. I don't see Matias IA Eklund in your poll... (I'm not sure about the spelling)
Anyway, Vai once said that the best guitarist ever is just an anonymous kid playing in his bedroom right now.
May I add Eric Clapton, or is it just a shredder-oriented poll ?
Edit : Sorry, I had not read previous messages. Clapton's already been mentionned.

voted others.
These two guys are my faves:
Jeff Loomis of Nevermore:
Listen to this godless Endeavor solo, sick!
Chris Broderick of Jag Panzer:
I cant even manage to play the slow one propperly!!!
Shredders:
Joe Satriani: without doubt the founder of the highspeed shredding and the one with the best tone at all. Shredding isnt playable at all, the melodic stuff is easy
Steve Vai: shredder deluxe, some wicked whammy actions, Floyd Rose, no one is better with it. Uses strange scales most times. 7string founder and master! I dont bother to play his stuff, it´s just to hard to learn.
Malmsteen: appregio hero, classical influenced. No, I cant play his stuff.
Petrucci: jap not bad, visited a workshop of him once. Nice man. Great knowledge and skills, but doable.
Van Halen: tapping founder His shredding, well, average imho. If you play for ten years, nothing special.
Laiho: his signature sucks, his fingernails also. But hey, damn good this guy. 4 fingers tapping, hard to play.
Hendrix: nuff said! No one can produce his tone, no one!
Page: gaaaaaaaaaah, come on, pffffffffffffffffffffffff.
Hammet: Satriani aprentice but not a match at all. For a experienced guitarist not hard at all.
Dimgebag: Divebomb hero. Insane picking. Especially the cowboys from hell album is a damn hard nut to crack.
Zakk Wylde: master of the flagelots. Intense leads with some huge balls. Hard to play.
Randy Rhoads: nuff said, wicked sick scales and fast as a shark. No, cant play his stuff.
Michael Amott: shredder, with one of the best melodies and tones I´ve ever heard. Playable but impressing.
Buckethead: eh, what did this guy play there? Five fingers tapping anyone? Waah!!! No idea what he is.
my none shredding heros:
Clapton: Mr. slowhand, not too hard to play, but hey, create his style then complain. I cant.
Mark Knopfler: bluesy. Fingerpicking, no way for me. Amazing.

Jack White from The white Stripes. Hes pretty much the band.
I'll have to check. He's the guitarist for Deathklok.Smaug wrote:

Nigel Tuffnel
IMHO the coolest and my fav guitarist has to be Kyle Gass, aka KG, aka Rage, aka Cage, aka Rage Cage.....
Eric Clapton was always up there with the best of em, but Hendrix gets the vote, got in there way b4 everyone else and started pushing the boundaries, nice post
thank you. I didn't include Clapton mostly because he isn't that "fast".. he is probably one of the greatest but it is pretty possible to play any of his songs...Vonlefteye wrote:

BRIAN MAY ffs!
I'll throw Nuno Bettencourt in there. Love him or hate him, he can play (everything, not just a guitar) like a crazy mofo.
I liked your everything in your post Slayer exept this:
oh.. Maybe EVERYthing he plays isn't doable... (my fav song BTW...)Sl4y3r wrote:

Dimebag
Why do those above people get preference over "someone else?"
