Thx, im glad it worked for you.  Got bad news though.  I had forgot to install AF when i did all of this work and so i went ahead and installed it last night and the problem returned.  I went back and did everything i could besides reinstalling the whole game and now im back to square one and i dont feel like reisntalling the whole game yet again.  I dont know what the hell is wrong with the game.  I think im just gonna give up.  I have waisted too much time on this for a problem that should be fixed by EA.  Glad to hear it worked for you though.
Well that sucks. I have not had a chance to try it all out. I was going to wait for the weekend.

So it sounds as is the reinstall needs to go in order : BF2 , then mods then the 1.4 patch? Just as a suggestion, did you reinstall the 1.4 patch after you installed AF? I read suggestions of this working with the previous patch.  One of the things I will try will be to download the full patch and reinstall it without a game uninstall. I suspect it won't work but I am looking for a shortcut. FYI: I only have teh game and SF. I wonder if the problem occurs with POE?

Im pretty frustrated with it, too. I question the need to spend more time on it anyway.  It just bothers me that I am being PREVENTED from gaming as a form of enjoyment. It may be time to look into Guild Wars or Oblivion. Keep positive!

Hi Guys,

I have been reading this thread and have the same problem, though a little bit different:

- upon joining a game I try to look for games with less people, e.g. 10 players in a 32 server, that way I can be sure to enter the game, because when I enter a game where more people are playing, e.g. 28 in a 32 server, I get the message 'connection lost';

- during that game there are no problems, even when more players enter, but after ending the game and switching to another map, the map loads and after loading and I'm ready to play, connection is lost when there are a lot of players in the game.

Just recently i entered a game without any problem, only +/- 15 players were around, the map ends and switches to Jalalabad, I was commander and noticed more people were joining until the server was full but still no problem, then the game switches to Karkand and connection is lost...

BTW, this is the reason I don't play on the BF2s EU server: when joining I loose connection

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

PS: I have a rather fast DSL connection, and I already used some of the tricks I found in a brilliant post on BF2s.

I did reinstall in that order.  You have to install the 1.4 or 1.3 patch before AF will install.  My order was BF - SF with patch 1.1 which is included with the game - Patch 1.4 - then AF - then Patch 1.4 again and yes i am using the full patch from EA.   I cant imagine there is some secret order to installing it.  That should have worked just fine.   There are a few more things i wanna try and a couple things i saw on bf2lag(.)com that seems like it could make a difference but if none of that works i am calling it quits on BF2 and pray that 2142 works better.

I have not seen that problem BUT I was not paying that close attention. I had sporadic connection problems. Most ofter, I would get dc'd 5 seconds after spawing into a loaded map.  When I finally got into a server without getting dc'd, I noticed mild lag but that was it. The only map I have successfully played recently was RTJ and I don't know why. Your observation was interesting and there may be something to it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Hmm. I see. I did not know that about AF as I dont have it. I was not willing to put more money into the game at that point.

I agree with you about the "secret installation" order. That would not make any sense. Oh, I appreciate the website you mentioned above. I will give a looksee.

ya the lag, the disconnects and punkbuster are related somehow, i just dont know what exactly it is to make it all work again and what EA did on their end to break it in the first place.  So if i can reduce my lag, maybe the disconnects go away too.  I dont know we will see.  Gonna try out all this new stuff tonight so i will know tomorrow if any of it worked.

Hello Mr.Maverick,

I have talked with one of my friend about this issue. He told me than BF2 is a VERY HARD SOFT.It needs a very stength configuration in hardware and software.
What I have noticed with all the problems I had is that before installing BF2 and pactches and extension , you should have a stable configuration :
Let me explain :
- Bf2 installed
-Install patch 1.4
- Update of Nvidia driver and 4in1 then BOOM : NOTHING WORKS !!
I uninstall everything and have done the job from Mr.Maverick
Then first install every drivers and after that install BF2 and patches and delete all files in the cache folder.
This works (for the moment !)

That means than the order of installation seems to be very important for BF2 and every changes after installation can make problem.
you can PM if necessary.
Good luck to all of you

Problem - If you don't have a microphone, and your getting connection problems at the start of round
Cause - No Microphone
Fix - Will happen on servers with VOIP enabled. Turn off your VOIP, in BF2 Audio Options.

@ Roomba: it happens not only on or after RTJ, no matter which map is loaded the connection is lost when the server is almost full (85+ % players).

I also want to point out that this only happens when a new map is loaded, and NOT when the same map stays (so two or more rounds on the same map) and the server puts you on the other team.

IMO - I'm not a tech wizard - it must have something to do with reconnecting to the server after a new map is loaded, and you are about to receive a lot of information at one moment. When you are staying on the same map, connection is never lost.

@ Lt. Victim: I will check this out, thx for the info. Just one thing, I do have a mic and headphone (Logitech) so i use VOIP, but i don't use TS.

Pierre:

I was saying the only map I have loaded and played recently was RTJ. Yeah, I have entered EMPTY servers and immediately got dc'd. It seems completely connection drive. Or there is something interfering with the connection.

Last night I tried to used the full patch on top of the current system. I also switched to the DSL/Cable option in the BF2 options. No luck. I could not get into a server at all!

I have had my VOIP off as long as I can remember. I will check it again as I have not looked at it in awhile. Come to think of it, I didn't see if the new patch reset is or not last night. I will have to check.

Thanks.

Well i have new news from the battle with EA and PB....appareantly there is/was a problem with my BF2 profile in the game.  The reason i know that there was a problem with my profile was that i created a whole new user name starting back as a private and it ran perfectly for over 3 hours.  Then i joined with my real name and instantly got the disconnects.  What EA and PB both suggested was to delete the entire Battlefield 2 folder in C:\My Documents.  This had to be done after all the installing and patching was already done.  Apparently the patch is screwing up user profiles if there is already a users profle on the system. Deleting the Battlefield 2 folder causes BF2 to create all new settings and wipe out and issues the patch created.  Didnt have time to delete the folder but im gonna try that tonight and see what happens.  Im about 95% sure this is what needs to be done, but remember it needs to be done after everything is installed and patch.  This would explain why the game was working until i installed AF and ran the patch again.  Hope this all makes sense and helps.  Of course the only real drawback is you lose your control and video settings but they dont take long to set back up.  Good luck!

Well holy cow!

That is an interesting find, Maverick! I have a question or two for you:

Is the folder you reference a separate profile folder from the main BF2 folder? I have my game at C:\programs\EAgames\BF2 (I think). And does this need to get deleted if you're not doing a uninstall/reinstall?

I may try to delete my profile in the game at the login, close the program, reload it and recall my profile that way. If that does not work, I will try your suggestion.

Thanks, dude!

The folder is locatied at C:\Documents and Settings\username\Battlefield 2.  The entire Battlefield 2 folder needs to be deleted.  This will reset all profile and setting for the installed game.  Thats is, start the game back up, recover you name from the stats server and setup your keys again and your set.

Quote from EA:
-----------------------------------
If the game works fine using a new in game account, please try to delete the save files then try retrieving your account. Deleting this folder should set the in game setting back to default as this saved file could be corrupted due to patch application etc.

1. Open "My Documents".
2. Right-click on the "Battlefield 2" folder and choose "Delete".

If you would like to retrieve an account, follow the directions below:
1. Click Manage Accounts.
2. Click on the Retrieve Account tab.
3. Fill in the requested information; be sure to either search by Using Email or Nickname as well as supplying the correct password.
4. Click Retrieve Account.

Your Profiles will now be listed in the Login window.

As suggested by Lt.Victim, I disabled VOIP, and guess what: I could join an almost full server and had no problem at all, and stayed there for several consecutive games in a row!

Now i have to check if I can join big 64 maps and it's all done.
BTW I also installed TS2 in order to be able to join BF2s Eu server.

Maverick,

To resolve this problem I have formatted the whole hard drive, completely reinstalled Windows, BF2 and PB.   The Windows reinstall would have wiped out my profile, yet the problem persists.   Are you sure that it is resolving the problem?

No help. I thought it would at first. I uninstall/reinstall and the same problem persists. I even tried some regedit stuff on this site if you're interested. I can't get rid of the problem.  I upgraded the router firmware and again got my hopes way too high. It worked briefly and came back.

well you guys must be doing something wrong or its a different issue.  I deleted my BF2 folder, loaded the game and have been playing for 4 hours straight without problems.  It worked for me.   I dont know what else to tell you.  If you guys are completely reinstalling the game, make your you DO NOT load the game until all installation and patches have been done.  Like i said before the patch can screw with your profiles and if you load the game then run a patch afterwards, you will have problems.   I dont know what else to tell you other than make sure you update your punkbuster, but i have been running solid since i deleted the folder and forced the game to make all new settings.  Good luck you all and im sorry i dont have anything else more useful.

Roomba:  You dont need to uninstall and reinstall again.  Just make sure you have installed BF2, SF, AF, EU...whatever you have...run the 1.4 patch.  After all of that is done; if the Battlefield 2 folder exists in C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents.....delete it and then reload the game.  That should work.  If not they you have a different issue from mine.

Maverick,

Thanks. I tried the folder with the profiles in My documents before I uninstalled the game. I thought that would do it. Now that I have reinstalled it with the full patch, I will go back and try removing the profile folder again.

Ok so I've been reading through the forums trying to get an answer to my problems as well. Sad to say though that so many ppl have the same problem but relieved in a sense to know it's not just me. My "Kick" stats have gone through the roof. Here is what I get most of the time:

Any other time I'm kicked for having a high average ping, that wasn't there for the past 2 rounds I played on the server then all of the sudden it spikes on me. I have manually re-installed PB numerous times to try and fix but nada. Now I am running wireless (only thing I can do for where the computer is located) and I avg. 60% signal strength mostly, so I find servers that I ping well with, usually 30-80ms and I do great for the most part.
My Stats:
ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless Edition Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD
Athlon 64 X2 4200+
CORSAIR 2Gb DDR2 800
BFG GeForce 7800GTX OC
250Gb 7200RPM 3.0SATA 16Mb cache

What's really holding me down though is the wireless which I'm working on getting rid of. I will try most the things posted and see if I can change my luck. Thnx for all the input.

Loaky,

First off, nice rig. What screen settings do you run at and what FPS do you get with that thing?

Second, I hope you have better luck than me. I did most of things listed on this forum and a couple other I chimed in on. I get massive ping spikes (>600) and then i get the "Your Connection was Lost" screen. Some of us think this is related to Punkbuster. Maverick showed that if he started a new profile or deleted his current one and recalled it, the problem went away for him. I tried that and it didn't work. I recently had two problems: spyware and ISP. I think the spyware was solved. I need to check with Comcast to see if there is something they are doing that I am not aware of. I had a router die and my connection was screwed up for a few days. They came out and fixed it but the tech didn't leave me with a warm fuzzy feeling that everything was back to normal. My internet was back to normal so and for a couple of weeks the 1.4 patch was fine. So I have a few loose ends.

Keep trying and let me know if you find something different from the solutions the other good people in the forum have found.

Thnx for the comp.

Well I got kicked once for same reason so I put PB to sleep for 500 and didn't have a problem. I think when I go through a spike, PB goes to authenticate and can't, timer goes up and I get kicked for it. Hopefully the extra time will let the spike go down back to normal before it does it again.

As for my settings, I run at 1024x768 at 60ghz. Everything set on Medium except texture. Viewing distance set at 90%. With that said I avg. 50-100 FPS depending on what's going on, i.e. Arty, tank blasting me, flying plane, etc etc. Like I said before it's not to the point where it hinders my performance too too much but it is annoying. I'm with you all I think it's PB, and I have the slightest feeling my wireless is part of the problem. All in all I deal with it for now until I can get a hardline where it's at.

I realized your post included a specific message about being kicked by PB. All mine just say is "Your Connection was lost". Your symptoms sound the same as mine though.

I had a Dlink DI524 router with a wireless card. My first 200+ hours I played wireless. I had no problems. Then I moved. I had no problems until 3-4 weeks ago. My Internet stopped and I determined it was the router. Comcast came out and did something but I was not sure if they left a loose end or not. I bought a Linksys WRT54GS so I could get wireless to my laptop. I hard lined my gaming rig this time.  I have been reading about port triggering and forwarding. I will include this link. I don't know if that is a real answer.  The Windows OS allows the BF2 exception. I speculate that the router needs to be told to allow the game to pass and communicate. PB too.

http://www.portforward.com/

I need to call Comcast and pick their brain. Something doesn't add up and the level of "fixes" is getting complicated.

Your screen shot looks good. I played on medium as well and had the best luck with the game. I have my game and desktop at the next one up: 1280 x 960?  Can't remember.  I'd like to try a rig that could play on max settings just to see if it enhanced the game play at all. Or my game "skills". Sad thing is, I finally got the game tweaked out and now I got these problems. Oh well.

Best of luck!

To all,

My connection problems were related to my cable modem. I had it replaced and viola! I played for an hour or so last night. Minor hiccups when the map loaded but that was there before.  It was a 44 player (?) map and it was loaded with people. It was good to be back.

So if you have tried everything else, call your ISP. I will let you know if I have any problems.
