Is it just me or does the fact that the UN even uses this term demonstrate it's unwillingness to enforce it's own decisions?
Deadline:
: a date or time before which something must be done.
This is what got me thinking about this.
After Iran ignored a U.N. deadline to halt enrichment by August 31, major power foreign ministers agreed this week to give their negotiator, EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, until early October to reach a deal with Tehran on starting talks, diplomats said.
I guess August 31 was the first "deadline" the new one is October.
There is no doubt that "new deadlines" work in Irans Favor.
My question is why set a "deadline" when you are just going to set another one behind it? There has been no significant reason that I can find that would suggest that a "new deadline" should be set. Just the fact that Iran ignores them. Whether or not Iran should listen to the UN at all is a different topic. I want to know why deadlines are changed and extended in the UN just because they are ignored. It's like a miniature Chihuahuas with no teeth. He can sit there and bark at me all day but I know he can't hurt me.
