columbus ran into florida while trying to get to india, there were a few vikings that came over before vespucci, but as the "natives" (who themselves migrated from siberia) hadn't learned how to ferment barley and hops, they went back home

Thanks for the credit, but it's an ongoing debate on several levels...your ideas in the other post have some merit but they cause a domino effect. So I was merely stating what I knew indirectly - it would have been easier just to provide the links. So the "credit" is really for the smarties that publish this stuff, not me.cpt.fass1 wrote:
Maybe the reason I never get laid is cause I think and talk about this kinda stuff..
Ok so bottom line is the war that we are in is actually a good thing. Not because we are freeing a people that didn't ask us to free them, not because we are finding weapons of mass destruction that, even if they existed, had more of a chance that of being used on Iran that America. But because we are creating a new chance of democracy, one that might be pure of corporate ties and actually treat their common citizens better then they treat the McDonalds of the world. We as a people where not freed until we kicked the English off of our lands (and a good ol fight with the French), and our Bi-Partisan government (lets face it instill we actually abolish the Elector Collage that is what we are) was doing really well for a while. We were leaders in a world were only two country's matter for quite some time, the USSR and the USA but now with the collapse of one we need an other method of control, one that cannot and never be destroyed.
Let us forget about all the corrupt politicians in the world who make money off of the hard working man. You know the one’s who for ever year have given themselves pay increases for cost of living. The one’s who would rather build a BILLION dollar fence across the border of Mexico then fix social issue’s first, like drop the sales tax and add a VAT tax (here’s a link cause I research, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Value_added_tax) . I have to say a billion dollar fence sounds a lot like I don’t know the Star Wars program which pissed away a ton of our tax dollars and did nothing. So in all honest I’d rather give away our “democracy”(which Christopher Columbus discovered ever though there were people already here, kind of makes me question) to a fresh country that actually might make a true democracy if they can get past the shitte and Sunnie problem..
We are the Land of the FREEEEEEEEEE let’s start setting an example(no more corrupt elections)
The VAT tax is because of Pug thanks for the assist, and the education and I don't steal credit here.
Nice patriotic post - makes me feel at least like starting the slow clap and cheering. I'm not completely sure what your saying, but I can see the heart. Random karma for you for a random thought.
the first time I went to the states I hated Sales TAX, I thought people were ripping me off as clearly I wasn't local, nearly got in a fight at the first store it happend to me in, I was like "it says the price is (whatever price the item was) not (whatever the price was plus sales tax). Then one time when I was in Texas buying beer the guy asked me for ID really freaked me out too, I was like "mate i'm 34 years of age, fuck sakes i've grey hair" someone else in the store had to buy it for me - CRAAAAAZY COUNTRY
Welcome to the states, but the harder drinking laws are due to the shitty mass tansit.. Also tonight there is going to be some drunken genious coming out I feel it..
Sales tax is just the means to support the State and Local governments instead of income tax. The argument is that it is paying for the cops, firemen, roads, etc that you are using - that are paid by the State government becauses they are enforcing State-based laws and needs. The FBI does the national laws, while systems, infrastructure and national programs are funded by US tax.IG-Calibre wrote:

It's the wonderment of State autonomy left over from the ideals from the States' colonial days.

yeah I understand that, it's just we're used to items having their tax included in their price - so if something has say a price of £1.99 on it. You don't go to the counter and get charged £2.34 (17.5% tax). That's what confused me all taxes are included in the price on the item on the shelf here.

Didn't he actually run into Jamaica? I think Ponce de Leon was the first to Florida. Vespucci didn't discover anything, he just made the maps and signed his name "Amerigo" to them.kr@cker wrote:
