Does anyone know if BF2142 will have widescreen support? I know that BF2 didnt and they have no plans of doing so. Thanks for the info..

Some weeks ago a website asked this in an interview and the response by DICE was something like: "it's not planned, but you never know."

Therefore i wouldn't count on widescreen support in BF2142.

Good question.....and one I would like answered myself.

The DICE answer above seems pretty lame ^^^!!!

An interview with Kristoffer Bergqvist from DICE can be found at http://www.shacknews.com/extras/2006/090506_bf2142_2.x

Kristoffer Bergqvist: We're not going to give widescreen users a higher [field of view], because that would be unfair for the other people without widescreen monitors, so the FOV will be the same.

Shack: But you'll at least have native support for the aspect ratio?

Kristoffer Bergqvist: Yes.

In BF2 you can force widescreen using a shortcut. Search forums to find it, works ace for me at 1400 x 900.

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

alternatively, go to bf2 shortcut, right click, and replace "target" with the line above.

CSS has widescreen support built in. Actually makes you see a wider field but I dont think its much of an advantage.

All this "widescreen is an advantage" stuff is crap. On that logic people with bigger monitors have an advantage, people with faster video cards have an advantage etc etc etc etc.

If you think it gives you an advantage, go buy one!!!

Yes I have one, yes I love it, yes if you dont have one you should buy one and stop whining at us.

Oh, and I also hope 2142 has native widescreen support, 1680x1050 would be nice

Thats what i sayin. I wasnt asking for a wider FOV....i just want the option to put it at a higher resolution to fit my monitor.

Why not give people who got a widescreen a wider FOV. I don't have one personally, and don't plan on getting one. But when these people spend so much on their moniters, why not give them something. Only advantage is that they see more, but they still have to move their mouse and player the same distance (as in rotate) to look towards something. It really shouldn't make a difference in a player's performance.

Exactly, and people who usually bitch about it making a difference have a global score of 3,000 or less

Guys, BF2142 is just BF2 with a big mod installed basically. It's not a whole new game -- same engine, pretty much the same GUI (just heavily skinned), etc. So no, since BF2 can't do widescreen, BF2142 can't either.

And why would they make it so that you could play widescreen anyway? I mean if they did, you'd have an advantage over users with normal monitors as you could see a wider field of view. Think about it. I mean, what if I had a REALLY wide screen to where I had 360 view. I could see guys behind me or something. lol

Anyway, If you don't want the black bars on the sides of your monitor, then just stretch the image as talked about above.

Oh don't give me that. It's not like when you play at 800x600 you're looking through a pinhole. I see the exact same image as you do, just at a higher resolution and better quality. That doesn't really help me shoot the bad guys any better. Don't blame your horrible KDR on that.

If widescreen support is implemented in BF2142 it will just be to fit the screen, not to increase the FOV. As has already been said this is just the BF2 (hell when installed some of the folders are called BF2) so I can't see an increase FOV being included.

It would be a nice addition, don't get me wrong, but given EA and DiCE's track record, a wider FOV would probably allow you to see around corners or through buildings or some other screw up.

What I would like to see is multiple monitor support so that you could have the map open on your seconf monitor rather than it getting in the way but I can't see that ever being included any time soon.

The reason I wanted to know was I am buying a new monitor - and if I could get a wider FOV supported by the game, then I would spend the extra $$ for wide screen - otherwise, I will stick with normal size....I think that was the real point of the post.

Why the hell would anyone be interested in getting a wide screen only so they can stretch the same FOV that everyone else has?  That would make the image look lame.

So, thanks for answering the question....don't bother with wide screen because there is no FOV advantage.

Thinking that dual monitor support would also not be something they would not be interested if you are buying the "that would be an advantage" argument....because it would.  Although, I would do it.

Just like a corporation buys political clout....the guy with the most $$ wins.

edit: added "not"

I play on widescreen and the image doesn't look 'stretched'...I'll check tonite to see if it's an increased FOV or what.

Ok, fine, it does.

But they are going to cut down on the lifespan of their product because it won't take more than two years for widescreen monitors to be the majority.

Heck, I haven't worked on a standard monitor in the past two years and I work on several different computers (owned by myself, my work and relatives).

EDIT: Including notebook computers.

It's not real widescreen as you image doesn't keep its aspect ratio.
