Hey guys, long time no see!

BF2042 dropping October 22nd this year:

Battlefield™ 2042 is a first-person shooter that marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise. In a near-future world transformed by disorder, adapt and overcome dynamically-changing battlegrounds with the help of your squad and a cutting-edge arsenal.

- 7 maps will feature up to 128 players.
- Customize weapons, gadgets and vehicles in-battle.
- "Hand-tailored squads" with the new Specialist system.

Honestly haven't found a mainline battlefield game that I've enjoyed since BF2 and the trailer here doesn't really instill much confidence in me. Looks like they're still trying to be a little too flashy and modern for my tastes. Although, if the trailer is to be believed, the map sizes look like they're gonna be huge.

The trailer shows a guy popping out of his jet, shooting down another jet, then landing in the cockpit. Also the scene of ramming a jihad quad into a helicopter.

The people who made the trailer at least have some familiarity with BF memes.

Also orange and blue.

Trailer looks awful. 20 years in the future and we won't have drone fighter jets but we will have checks notes weather machines? Why are soldiers running around among each other and out in the open? I know TaCtICaL sHoOtErS are not real war but you would learn enough to know that the 1:20 isn't practical. And World War 3 with advanced computer systems wouldn't last very long in the real world once China cuts off the global rare Earth material and the government makes it illegal to own more than one cellphone.

Anyway, I was already skeptical of the whole thing before I even started the video. I was not won over.

You gotta keep the people though. Reading comments that made a prototype 2142 titan map in bf4, maybe they're on their way to making 2142 2
I get what they were going for in the trailer with doing stuff that happens in battlefield but most of it looked like a bad B movie.

Whatever complaints people have about the realism of the Battlefield series should have been put to bed as long ago as BF1942. More recently, BF1 certainly wasn't a realistic depiction of WW1. A less exciting version of BF2042 would have all the soldiers sheltering in place back at base because of super-COVID-39.

The trailer was kind of a mess, but the memes hit the right buttons. Still, I don't see myself getting back into Battlefield. Even if it was good, I just don't want to be sucked into another super-competitive PVP. I don't have the time.

No matter how cool it may look, keep in mind several things:

1. It will have a progression system that will force you to grind out for hours until you can actually use the fun stuff and be on an even playing ground with more dedicated players.

2. It will have DLCs, and other stuff to keep you on the hamster wheel of adding money to it.

3. It will have skins and other confusing customization that will make it genuinely hard to tell who is who.

4. Probably will not have dedicated servers.

It looks a little cool, but still there is no campaign, and I haven't played pvp bf in years. I would have nothing to do but stare at the menu animation, whatever that will be.

Like an abusive girlfriend, I shunned the franchise after BF3 but came back for BF5, only to fall down the stairs and hit my head on a doorknob again.

Craziest thing, on online buddy convinced me to play BF4 with him which I agreed to out of pity. Turns out, I guess I didn't have BF4. It was BF3 the whole time. Now I'll probably have to play that.

I lost an internet friend because I wouldn't buy and didn't want to play BF3 when it came out. I have no idea why it's in my library now. Maybe one of those EA freebies or a 99% off sale.

This forum might almost be relevant again! It looks good, although it’s annoying that it’ll be on the PS4/Xbone as I feel those systems will hold back the overall scope of the game significantly.

I think the franchise has been holding itself back. I don't remember every specific, but I do remember being disappointed that BF3 looked like a downgrade from BF2. Didn't they nerf the whole squad/commander play?

A bunch of EA stuff is on Steam now. I haven't checked but I'm pretty sure I can launch some of it without starting Origin. And if you do have to launch it, it doesn't seem to have a fraction of the overhead as Steam.

Pretty sure it is like Dawn of War 2, in requiring both Steam and Windows Live to work, although in this case it requires both origin and steam. Any EA games you can play without origin are likely pre-origin EA games.

Maybe, but I haven't really noticed it between housebuilding on Sims or finishing up Fallen Order. As long as I don't forget I have an account and end up having to juggle two (it would have been nice if uplay let me transfer like two keys over to my newer account so I didn't have to remove the games utterly from my steam library to avoid new title account confusion).

Speaking of Dawn of war, you should give Unification a look. I know this isn't specifically Battlefield-related, but since it came up:

Video is chapterized (heh), so I recommend viewing it directly on youtube where you might be able to see them on a sidebar. Still visible on the timeline here though.

Of course, Ultimate Apocalypse has bigger armies, but Unification has last stand.

This just looks like a reskinned bf4 to me
No doubt it will run like shit, off hitboxes, dragshots won't work, meh
Will probably buy it anyway as Im sure we will be in Lockdown all winter

Yikes. Battlefield 2042, officially released just two days ago, is now one of the worst-reviewed games on Steam with over 29k negative reviews. Currently, it sits as the eighth lowest-rated game on Steam.
