we actually noticed the sudden moratorium on 'woke DEI government funding' in the scientific publishing world this last week. lots of research groups basically frozen and putting down tools, figuratively speaking. mind you, i edit and manage astrophysics. there aren't a lot of 'DEI hires' or 'leftist cells' being given telescope viewing time in the field of astronomy. this government seems determined to tear down the system and do as much damage as possible, it seems, through some sort of shock doctrine.

but for whose benefit?

china has already overtaken the USA in the top echelons of research publishing. freezing all federal grants seems like a great sop to the CCP.

hasn’t it also been normal practice since like the 1970s to have basic proximity alert systems? this blackhawk was flying with everything turned off, apparently. is there really a pressing security need for that when in extremely busy airspace in your own capital?

didn't trump also dismiss the head of the TSA. not a proximal cause to an accident several days later, but still. additional levels of bureaucratic carnage can't help.
