Democrats handwaved away all of the BLM riots as "mostly peaceful". They would do the same if BLM sacked the Capital. They would use that MLK quote

Did you even read the graph? 20% is an improvement compared to 9% in '13.

While I'm sure there are some edgy anarchists who would say so, your point is a false equivalency. The goal of BLM protests (which is hard to even discuss because there were thousands of disparate groups, so anything as a whole is gonna be using a broad brush) was for greater police accountability, i.e. legislation. Even the Defund the Police people, by and large, weren't saying let's drag cops out of of their beds and Mussolini them.

Do you honestly believe if there was no security/evacuation that that mob high on power would politely air their grievances at Mike Pence and Nancy Pelosi? Call it my bias, but I doubt it. Again, I'm sure there's some left people out there who would want to see the symbols of AmericaTM taken down a peg, but for the non-accelerationists, it isn't a meaningful act to getting what you want. It's not comparable at all to trying to stop vote certification because you've never watched an election before and are mad your guy lost because he was unpopular as sin.

stop trolling macbeth. there are no equivalent movements on the left like QAnon, or even the tea party. it's not like AOC and the so-called 'left-wing progressive' figureheads in america are calling for elections to be overturned or for mitch mcconnell to be hanged outside congress for being a 'traitor'.

It's because the ghost of MLK riled that crowd up and told them to go after... CNN, I guess? Sure, that makes sense, OR that's just a nebulous, leaderless mob of people still hanging around from what I imagine was an actual protest earlier in the day.

why exactly are you so keen to bury any sort of legal or political investigation into the attack? it was a shitshow and deserves to be recorded as such for posterity.

you sound an awful lot like those trump-voting rubes you criticize who always get duped into voting against their interests.

does it affect your negatively that human rights organizations or legal groups exist to pursue justice?

haha. first week of the new mayor of NYC’s term and he … hires his brother to be a police commissioner of his former NYPD? for $250k a year! amazing.

a family of pig people. the brother apparently retired from the force as a sergeant and had been ‘assistant director of transportation facilities at the university of virginia commonwealth’, aka a parking lot attendant i presume.  now he’s a chief of po-leece!

is this the wire season 6?

We literally just got out of a president appointing willy-nilly from his own family.

re: jan 6 stuff, mac wants us to stop talking about that like he wants America to forget about our concentration camps. there's no place in american life for introspection.

there's got to be more than what meets the eye to that mayor story, right? how could anyone be so brazenly stupid? first week in the job and he's handing out jobs to his siblings? errr? how do you win one of the most high-profile mayoral races in the world without any political nous? i assume it takes an immense amount of political craftiness and intrigue to win that race in the first place.

The last mayor had a lot of problems dealing with the NYPD who considered him illegitimate. I assume putting the mayor's brother in there is one way of asserting control over it.

I was more bothered by another NYPD crony that got an appointment the other day.

Tapper, meanwhile, took the opportunity to press Adams on another recent controversial appointment.

“You’ve also named former NYPD chief Philip Banks as your deputy mayor. I’m sure you know, he was named an un-indicted co-conspirator in a federal corruption probe and resigned in 2014 after being accused of accepting bribes in return for favors,” the CNN anchor declared. “We should note he denies that vociferously. But are you worried at all about the message you’re sending by appointing someone with that record to be your number two?”

Adams said he was “not at all” worried about how the Banks appointment looked, adding that while “there were some real mistakes and errors” made by the former NYPD chief, Banks wasn’t “accused of a crime.” The mayor further cited rising crime in the city as a rationale for tapping Banks as deputy mayor.
Three black former cops in the top three spots of NYC. Puzzling move but then again Adams got through the primary by promising to restore safety to NYC. Put 2 futureless black cronies in charge of basically a crackdown on minorities in Manhattan and other gentrifying communities. Might work. Can't call them racist for the crackdown. White NYPD middle management has someone to blame for all of the bad and also cover since their boss is black.

A bigger story: the mayor refusing to close the schools at all. I assume he will get a pass to do whatever by many people solely on making sure the NYC public school daycare is running.

The first time Celeste Norris laid eyes on Ashli Babbitt, the future insurrectionist had just rammed her vehicle three times with an SUV and was pounding on the window, challenging her to a fight.

Norris says the bad blood between them began in 2015, when Babbitt engaged in a monthslong extramarital affair with Norris’ longtime live-in boyfriend. When she learned of the relationship, Norris called Babbitt’s husband and told him she was cheating.

“She pulls up yelling and screaming,” Norris said in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press, recounting the July 29, 2016, road-rage incident in Prince Frederick, Maryland. “It took me a good 30 seconds to figure out who she was. … Just all sorts of expletives, telling me to get out of the car, that she was going to beat my ass.”

Terrified and confused, Norris dialed 911 and waited for law enforcement. Babbitt was later charged with numerous misdemeanors.

The attack on Norris is an example of erratic and sometimes threatening behavior by Babbitt, who was shot by a police officer while at the vanguard of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol. Former President Donald Trump and his supporters have sought to portray her as a righteous martyr who was unjustly killed.

Its really bad for politicians and the police to be completely intertwined in this way.
The UK Met Police and the conservative govt are looking out for each other, Thatcher started that I think.

The House Republicans’ campaign arm, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), announced a total of $140 million in last year’s off-year fundraising haul, obliterating their previous off-year record.
...
Last year’s fundraising efforts to achieve a sizeable war cast for the midterms left the committee with an astonishing $78.2 million cash on hand coming into the election year, which is a 146 percent increase from the 2019 cycle.

I've seen the call to arms emails on that, guilt-tripping you for not signing away your firstborn son or whatever. Especially fundraising for the Trump war chest.

Disengagement was one of my yuge complaints about the Trump presidency. It was mind-boggling to me how Trump fans could at once be wary of China, yet so *#&@ unfazed about giving them voids to fill. Very problematic thought process. No openings for argument either, it's all closed opinion and deflection.

These people aren't serious about doing or fixing all the shit they complain about. They think they are serious but making the sacrifices we all need to make to better our country? "Fuck that. I have freedom" Want their cake and to eat it too. They think if they put Trump in power he will be able to win a domestic culture war and also defeat China at the same time. Impossible.

The Hays Consolidated Independent School District (Hays CISD) in Kyle is asking parents to consider applying to become a substitute teacher as coronavirus continues to surge across Texas.

The school district says it sent an email flyer to our parents at the end of last week asking them to consider applying to be a sub. Hays CISD also posted the request on social media.

According to Hays CISD, the parents would still have to apply, pass the fingerprint criminal background check, and do orientation. But, if the principal knows them and recommends them, the school district can waive the requirement that they have at least 30 college hours.
Just up the pay and recruit local college students? No! We must let the Karens into the system.

I would term it more 'sabotage' than simply disengagement. The Trump administration was an unmitigated disaster in this respect to a point that the US will probably never recover from its legacy. In this I see Trump as the final culmination in a longer neoconservative tradition of the US sabotaging its own position, the nail in the coffin if you will.

From personal experience it was nearly pointless dealing with the US during his administration and an absolute ton of career civil servants resigned their posts. I believe there's still an enormous amount of vacancies for ambassadors and international representatives that just haven't been filled. Tried to withdraw from the WHO, withdrew from the climate accords, withdrew from various influential UN commissions, threatened to pull support from NATO, completely erratic foreign policy - with any international event you'd hear Mattis say X, Tillerson say Y, Trump blast Z on twitter. No regard or respect whatsoever for international norms or agreements that were made... the whole notion of the US as a dependable or even just rational/predictable world power was thrown out the window.

A change in administrations doesn't/can't heal all that damage. And even if there's sustained stability over the next few administrations, some of the damage is permanent through the loss of influence to other parties that indeed 'filled the gap'. i.e. allegiances to China esp. have grown. China now also receives more foreign heads of state each year than the US ever did. It's gg, and noticeable in UN voting.
