Well then figure out why so many, actually all of them, ended up being enablers. It's not just a sickness in the party here but a glaring weakness in your democratic system.
I don't really understand what you're driving at. I've never said there weren't flaws. I've frequently brought up my opinion that the presidency is too powerful in the wrong hands. I'm not satisfied with the way the legislature has thrown its weight around either.

Republicans maintaining silence over Trump (whether secret support or too afraid to speak up) was unspoken support, end of. For many people, it wasn't even that simple. "I didn't vote for him but you gotta appreciate/like/respect yadda yadda" get outta here. What do I care about Republicans finding their balls on the 11th hour to deliver lip service? A lot of the language right now is "oh this is a terrible thing but do you remember how much worse the liberals did in 2020?"

"At least Romney, better late then never." Pff. Is that really the best they have to offer?

Imagine your neighbor bringing a feral, rabid raccoon into your house to destroy your things and pee on the carpet. After nursing a beer and a smirk for an hour they finally wink and apologize. Oh, guess it's time to "mend relations" while they're in the middle of tweeting about how much of a bastard you are.

this story about hackers busting into parler and effectively getting the driver’s license info of every ‘verified citizen’ on the network is terrifying and funny in equal measure.

the FBI must be lapping it up. because of a well-known Wordpress exploit basically all of the organized far-right have been identified.

What kind of self-respecting far right nutjob would put their driver's license online, what the shit.

it gets even better. deleted posts weren't actually deleted, they were just tagged as such and 'hidden'. so any admin-level user (of which the hackers have bot-created millions by this point) can see a bunch of posts simply tagged as 'deleted', and retrieve their full content.

so all of the rabble-rousing, nazi-sympathizing, putsch-organizing right-wingers' crimes are right there.

Just thinking about some of the local/state personalities makes me squirm uncomfortably. It's not a party I'm likely to touch with a ten foot pole anytime soon. I wish Washington would abolish sales tax and institute an income tax in its place so our Republicans would no longer have the "we're keeping Washington from having both!" cudgel to wave about.

About six years too late.
Definitely cared more about the position than the integrity. So much for that stick.

I would extend that through years of disrupting 44 for the sake of it, and going along with Jr.'s fascistic-leaning decisions.
Washington doesn't have a sales tax? That's weird. NJ has both on top of high property taxes.

didn't know a second cop killed himself following the attacks. hard to infer a clear motive or cause, of course, and would be insensitive to speculate.

but what a clusterfuck.

Man, NJ sounds like such a #*&hole. WA doesn't have an income tax. Some politicians want one on top of our existing sales tax, and various other taxes. Our property taxes have a penalty and an interest rate for anyone delinquent on them.

For a blue state, Washington's taxations have been derided as not very progressive (why is it fair to tax a poor person x% on y amount and the rich person the same? literally additional penalties for being poor) That's weirdly a hole for state Republicans to snuggle into.

Washingtonians on the Oregon border enjoy shopping across it. AFAIK Oregonians shopping in Washington have to go through an annoying redemption process for sales taxes paid in Washington over a certain amount.

I checked and NY state also has a tax trifecta. NJ and NY have a similar system where you can get your taxes fixed if you work across state lines. I don't know how that works though.

FBI bulletin went out warning of armed violence around impeachment and Trump. I wonder if they are just covering their asses or if they genuinely expect violence.

Sales tax is still really unprogressive though. Much of a sharper sting annually for the have-nots than the haves. What does a millionaire care on a 10% sales tax for an $80,000 car? A poor person paying that on a $3,000 beater is going to suffer more.

Also why do we need to have fixer companies to represent, negotiate, and repair people's standing with agencies like the IRS? That stuff should just be painless on its own.

Armed protests being planned at all 50 state capitols, FBI bulletin says
Starting this week and running through at least Inauguration Day, armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols and at the U.S. Capitol, according to an internal FBI bulletin obtained by ABC News.

The FBI has also received information in recent days on a group calling for “storming” state, local and federal government courthouses and administrative buildings in the event President Donald Trump is removed from office prior to Inauguration Day. The group is also planning to “storm” government offices in every state the day President-elect Joe Biden will be inaugurated, regardless of whether the states certified electoral votes for Biden or Trump.

"The FBI received information about an identified armed group intending to travel to Washington, DC on 16 January," the bulletin read. "They have warned that if Congress attempts to remove POTUS via the 25th Amendment, a huge uprising will occur."

I stood in a merch line at a M's game once when an Oregonian was buying a single ballcap. He made the poor checker get out the paperwork (yes in paper) to do 10 minutes of extra work so he could get his Oregon tax removed. I think it was the checkers first day too because a second, more senior person had to keep coming over and helping, all the while the little team store in Safeco was filling with people eagerly trying to get their crap before the game started.
Fuckin oregon. Pump your own gas ya lazy dopes.

trump's bank have dropped him (reportedly, at least). will be interesting to see what happens to him if his phoney 're-election campaign' grift doesn't manage to pay off those hundreds of millions in loans.

President Trump on Tuesday showed no contrition or regret for instigating the mob that stormed the Capitol and threatened the lives of members of Congress and his vice president, saying that his remarks to a rally beforehand were “totally appropriate” and that the effort by Congress to impeach and convict him was “causing tremendous anger.”

Answering questions from reporters for the first time since the violence at the Capitol on Wednesday, the president sidestepped questions about his culpability in the deadly riot that shook the nation’s long tradition of peaceful transfers of power.

“People thought what I said was totally appropriate,” Mr. Trump told reporters at Joint Base Andrews, en route to Alamo, Texas, where he was set to visit the border wall. Instead, Mr. Trump claimed that racial justice protests over the summer were “the real problem.”

“If you look at what other people have said, politicians at a high level about the riots during the summer, the horrible riots in Portland and Seattle and various other places, that was a real problem,” he said.
Well then I guess he wants to go out with a bang. This will not end well.

A situational information report approved for release the day before the U.S. Capitol riot painted a dire portrait of dangerous plans, including individuals sharing a map of the complex’s tunnels, and possible rally points for would-be conspirators to meet up in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and South Carolina and head in groups to Washington.

‘As of 5 January 2021, FBI Norfolk received information indicating calls for violence in response to ‘unlawful lockdowns’ to begin on 6 January 2021 in Washington. D.C.,’ the document says. ‘An online thread discussed specific calls for violence to include stating ‘Be ready to fight. Congress needs to hear glass breaking, doors being kicked in, and blood from their BLM and Pantifa slave soldiers being spilled. Get violent. Stop calling this a march, or rally, or a protest. Go there ready for war. We get our President or we die. NOTHING else will achieve this goal.’
