BF2 crashes when i press join server (i mean the "join server"-button)

it worked but now I'm back from vacation it doesn't every time i press join server the sound freezes for 0.5-1 sec. and then I'm at the desktop again....

i re-installed bf2 (and updated directx 9.0c, don't know why; thx 3dmark06 or directx update...) yesterday and it worked but then i got sometimes the message that there occurred a problem (time-out) with punkbuster update....

k..so i got kicked 2 times on a server...at the end of my play i tried to update pb...i tried (yesterday) with pbsetup.exe from evenbalnce.com...the update was successfully but today i wanted to play with my mates aaaand what happened i crash again...before the game starts to load..or before there is a message with trying to connect or something like that (don't use the engl.-version)

so i tried again to update pb this time with pbweb.exe, the update process was successfully, again,...but it doesn't helped me to solve my problem pls help....

yup i get the same problem, i uninstalled, reinstalled patched with the full patch go to join a server and i just CTD.

sry 4 wrong section...but after reinstall i patched with 1.3 full>sf>ef>af..i also tried 1.3 full>sf>1.3full>ef>1.3full>af>1.3full

i also tried installing all patches in chrnical order (1.01,...1.12, etc.)

but it occured "newly" havent got this prob..ever...any ideas of help..?

pS: after installing i can play bf2 but when i restart my pc or the game (after poatching to 1.3 and installing all addons xps) i cant...; now im trying to downgrade my vga driver from 91.47 to 84.21 or 81.95...(nVidia forceware)

God i have written the answer to this problem a million kajillion times.
When that button comes up, click the Auto-Ready button three times so that the Auto-Ready box is not marked. Wait for around 30 seconds, you will soon here a click noise. Double-click the auto-ready button and if you here the click noise each time to press it now... You can press join game. It will load fully and work.

u mean the auto-ready in the options or?
think that u have missunderstood my prob...im unable to laod the game...when i press join game @the serverlist the crashes...not after loading

This happens to me and my friend as well. It only happened after I downloaded 1.3 full. Some servers will say also that crashes are caused by 1.3. I don't know if 1.4 will fix this or not but I don't like to download beta versions so Imma wait it out. Pisses me off though when it happens.

Ive had sucess,meaning when I wait 10 secs,then click join,Ive sucessfully got into a server w/o a crash.

knightnufer has a fix for this issue that he has already posted...

Another fix is to let the game completely load, DO NOT hit escape to get out of the opener. Let the game go all the way through until you hear welcome to duty!

I had several issue one after the other and I let it load the "movie" all the way until you select a account and it solved my problems!

Hope it helps, I now thats all I have to do!

i don't know about you but this happened to me also. so in a freak attempt to try something out, i "restored" my PC back (system restore) to an older date/day. and wallah! it worked.

look, i don't know if it'll work for any of you but it did me. I don't know what was doing it either. sorry

I hope when you try it, that it works again.

bf2 requires much ram to run properly,before you go any further,run a memory test to see if your ram is good or corrupted.you may need to do a"complete" reinstall,deleting your bf2 registry key,deleting your battlefield 2 folder in your documents and patching with the 1.21,1.22,1.3.if your rams bad(I had to take a stick out,test,repeat until I narrowed down which stick was bad)then just replace your ram and you will still have to do the reinstall,as corrupted ram can cause files not to be created properly.
