I know what you mean, unless you like only one kit. Getting to the first unlock point doesn't take very long at all so unlocking the guns that matter to a specialist is cake. Once you've got that the second unlock point is then dead easy, so the account would be just fine for two kits. I felt the same way for a short time when I had to use the M24 again on alternate accounts and there's very little difference between it and the L96A1; it is very much a matter of 'feel' as much as the innate qualities of the guns in some cases.

And the G36 family is the best in the game, but can be beaten with even the slightest skill.
I use unlocks because its more of a challenge. Theyre certainly not bad, but unlocks do have an advantage in some ways.

Stock Medic,Assault, and Engy weapons are awesome. M4, Type 85, and Type 88 ain't too shabby.

It gives all the unskilled players a good chance at taking you out by pure luck, and it makes the skilled players deadly because of their good aim. Come on, that 3 round burst for the medic on the G36e? That's possibly the deadiest (and easiest) way to rush in to cap a flag.
Playing on a full 64 karkand is tough enough as it is. Especially when getting into a good rhythm is key. When every other player has a G36something or a G3, the stock models make it very difficult to engage the enemy as needed.
Someone said that they are good for close quarter combat and I agree. I mean I didn't suck in my new account, I got 2 gold medals with 2 100pts rounds. However when it came time to defend a flag for example, where picking off enemies is part of a good strategy, it was simply obvious the overpowerment of the unlocks vs the standards. I saw it mostly with the USMC weapons too, especially with the 3round burst ones. Not nearly as accurate as the unlocks, at least at a distance where it matters a lot.
The most interesting about this, like someone else pointed out, is that you really end up paying money (for the SF expansion) in order to get these better weapons. While playing with my main account people slowly got more and more unlocks and it never felt unbalanced. But I mean if you were starting to play BF2 for the first time, I say you are at a huge disadvantage. More so that in other FPS.
And yes, the guns don't make the player... that is why I was able to kick some ass with the new account. However the weapons are definatelly unbalanced towards the SF purchase unlockables.

Amen to that...depending on map and teamplay, and always on the gun you're walking around with. I switch weapons all the time, start with some AT mines, pick up a medikit to revive a player that just got shot...and so on....it's fun, and I get different weapons/kits. Oh yea, RPK and SAW are awesome, but the PLA one (type w/e) sucks. And the M4 is also pretty accurate seeing how it's a scaled down M16, and the AK-74u is pretty good too.

generally, standards are better than unlocks. ak-47, ak-101, img and rpk pwn.
the m16 is the most fun weapon in the game. with the m16, line up just right then tap your finger fast. You can land the maximum of 5 single shot hits before the g36 fires the 2 widely spaced bursts that it typically takes to kill someone with at medium to long range. At close range, using the m16 on burst is sort of like using the dao12--stay moving and click repeatedly on the target until white writing appears on the left. this move is similar with a lot of weapons in the game and frankly whichever gunner does it accurately with any gun will win the fight. and the m16s rate of fire is so high that it may give you an advantage.
also, a common trade off with the nice unlocks is that you get less ammo. the p90 gives you 3 clips! the m16 gives you something like 7. So if you are planning on going for a kill streak you know your m16 is going to keep up but the p90 or even g36e can leave you bunny hopping away for more ammo. sure the bullets are worth less damage in an m16, but since single shot mode is so perfect for this gun, you make all of these bullets count much more than with other weapons. especially the g36e.

No gun is better than another. Each weapon is suited to different playstyles. Dont like a shotgun for the engineer? Try the rapid firing jackhammer. Dont like shotguns fullstop? Try the rapid firing, 40 round MP7.
