I'm very confused and need some help from the experts. 

I did a search in here and did what others have recommended:  I've turn off programs, backgroung programs, and programs that might be using the internet.  I have AdAware to remove spyware; temporarly disabled Norton Security; went into task manager and end process on non-priority tasks. 

I've been playing BF2 for two months and I never had a problem with ping.  I had an average ping of 40-110.  My favorite servers are Full Contact Wars, Dirty Dozen, etc.  Never had a problem with any of them or any other server.

As of three days ago, I'm averaging a ping of 500-1200 on all of them (at all times of day and night)...  even from servers that are not that far away from me. 

I even uninstalled and reinstalled BF2 (incl. 1.3) and I'm still getting this same problem...  seems to be getting worse.

As for net connection, Bellsouth DSL is all they offer for my area... with the exception of dialup (ha).

I did everything that the experts have recommeded to others when I did a search in here, but none of it is making my ping any better.  Does anybody have a different recommendation, solution, or a sound theory as to why my pings jumped from 40-110 (for the past couple of months) to now and average ping of 500-1200?

Last time my ping went freaky it was because windows had just downloaded a security update. Any help?

I've thought about that; however, the last security update was about two weeks ago... didn't have a problem with that.  That was a good suggestion though...

Dont forget it could actually be your ISP no just your PC do a bandwith test at www.bandwidthplace.com and do a tracert to the server IP you play on if your ping gets really high at a specific server on the tracert ring your ISP and give them and earbashing and they will sort it out you might even get a months free internet if ure really pissed off with them!!

There are several things that might be contributing to this, all of which are slowing down your throughput to the internet.

(1)  Your data rate to your ISP could be slow, or the data rate from your ISP to the internet is slow.  There are a number of online speed checkers you could use to see whether or not this is the problem.  If you have a wireless internet connection, check the orientation of your equipment to improve throughput.
(2)  If your data rate is OK, then next check for virus or spyware problems which could be sending out a bunch of traffic and clogging your connection.  This should be happening whether or not BF2 is running.  If your modem "blinks" with traffic, then just simply look at the lights while no other programs are running.  If they are constantly blinking, then this might have a problem.  Update your anti-virus & check for problems ... run a spyware cleaner.
(3)  If you don't have spyware or virus, then your virus program might be the problem (in fact, this is the most frequent reason for slow throughput).  Temporarily disable your anti-spyware and anti-virus software and see if the problem persists.

I ran the test, and here is what they said...

2.5 megabits per second:

Communications:   2.5 megabits per second
Storage:               302.5 kilobytes per second
1MB file download: 3.4 seconds
Subjective rating:  Great

1.)  Data rate seems to be good.  I ran the test... results are posted above. I don't have wireless. 
2.)  I ran spyware and antivirus, only 1 spyware, elimated it... same problem persists.

3.)  I turned off Norton Security/AntiVirus and Adaware as instructed, it's a little better, pinging 300-600.

Wait... here's a question...

My brother and I share the same LAN... we both play BF2... and we both never have a problem with Ping until a couple of days ago.  If his computer has spyware or viruses, would that affect my connection if we connect through the same hub or is it an isolated problem?

well same thing is going on with me... i was at moongamers and it like crashed like 4-5 times that sad ... 1.3 damm that patch..also my ping it was high and i get like 28 last night i had like 100 somthing ...Y

You have to learn the rules of the game and then you have to play better than anyone else.

That would definately factor in if he has spyware, or is using a p2p or bittorrent client as well...
If you do say, a ping -t to Google.com, is it pretty steady?

Example: Here's from my WIRELESS at home (with a "low" connection)

It's finally working! 

It happens to be my brother's computer that was interfering with my connection.  He had not only spyware, but also a virus.  That would explain why I was pinging so high.  I eliminated 300+ spyware and 1 virus from his computer. 

After cleaning up his computer, I played BF2, and my ping was back down to 40-120. 

Hey thanks to all for helping me with the PING situation.  Add this situation to the "list" of possibilities...

I too have been running into the same thing since i reinstalled BF2 recently with the 1.3 patch.  I never had these issues with previous patches yet this one seems to be a lagball.    Something EA did im sure becuase my systema nd ISP connection are the same that i used before with no lag what so ever.   Also play World of Warcraft and Darkage of Camelot with no lag.   Sometimes when ingame ill get the famous message "there is a problem with your connection" and as soon as it stops i check my ping and its usually 50ms or below and dosent spike or anything.   Actually the times when my ping is higher (200ms+) is when i first enter a game after joining a new server.  But after 10 to 15 seconds it lowers to below 100ms.

     Oh and by the way incase anyone from EA reads this forum,   I WANT MY DAMN STATS BACK!!!!!

I've seen your PC specification but you forgot to tell:
- what kind of modem you use?
- are you using wireless or no?

Anyway, the first thing you should do - if you haven't done it - to restart your modem weekly. If you use wireless, do the same with your router as well.

Secondly, using only Adaware is not enough. I suggest you to use at least to others as well. (Spy sweeper, Aluria, CounterSpy. These are the best. Adaware fails to recognize some spyware and doesn't have some options)

Thirdly you should run a scan for trojans as well. Go here for a trial version of Trojan Hunter: http://www.misec.net/

If you would provide more info on your system I might be able to help you better.

Ps: Calling your ISP is a good idea. Many times the sudden increase in pings is simply becasue your ISP redirects you to another "traffic route", through different routers. Call them to examine your traffic and they might find a solution. Good thing is that my ISP always monitors the users and acts without having to call them.
Or the relay station - nearest to you - is under maintanance. Anyway they can provide info on that as well.
