This isn't as much of a rant as it is a question...I don't know much about the new unlock system, other than I hear there's tons of unlocks. Here's what I'm wondering...will the players who have tons of unlocks (and therefore have played alot) completely dominate newer and/or more casual players who don't have many unlocks?
I would expect, to some extent, there to be a natural correlary between playtime and skill, but lower playtime also would not necessarily mean lower skill. The nice thing about the BF2 unlocks are that there isn't a vast difference between unlock guns and base guns. Sure they're better, nobody would question that, but not so much that somebody with a F2000 dominates or somebody with an MP5 has no chance whatsoever.
I do appreciate how in BF2 you could get your hands on one or two unlocks without too much intense work, thereby making you not completely helpless and giving you access to one or two of the more advanced weapons. That was a good call by EA...I hope it will work the same way in 2142.
But I wonder...is the nature of the unlocks in 2142 such that it will create those imbalances? If I play casually, say only several hours a week, will I simply be mopped up every time I join a server because someone puts in hours a day and has all the fancy-pants guns and gear I don't? Or will the difference between the haves and have-nots not be so staggering as to discourage new or infrequent players from joining servers?
