BF2S Forums CTD when I hit "Join Server"

well see that's the thing I played BF2 during patch 1.3 without any problem, I'm still trying to figure out what's going on I never had this happen before.

Doesnt happen to me every time either. Main time it happens to me is when I leave BF2 on for a while, then go to join a game and I get CTD

Are you behind a router or a firewall?

Do you have dual core cpu?

if so
open the task manager right click on bf2.exe and go set affinity then untick cpu 1 and push ok.
problem fixed

If this works, PM me and ill send you a programm i have that purmently sets the Affintiy of the .exe file

nope not that either

could it be because I haven't did disk clean up for a while? I had it on for two hours and it still said "Scanning: Old Compressed files" and I would regularly do disk clean up

Perhaps you have updated your network adapter (or chipset if integrated) drivers lately? Perhaps installed one to many windows fixes? Sounds like there is some wierd network problem when you can't see any regular web sites either.
I hate to be a wiseass, but the only thing I update is my anti-virus and firewall. "If it ain't broken, don't try to fix it", suits windows pretty well...

No, it's just the patch, I have 1 gig, and I'm fine.

It's a known issue with the 1.3 patch, and as far as I know, no one has been able to find the cause for the problem. Different people have offered possible solutions which work on their system, but no one has found a fix that solves it for everyone, I believe. there are threads about this in the BF2:Help subforum, maybe one of them offers a solution for your system.

apart from that, nothing we can do here but wait for the 1.4 patch and hope they solve it.

EDIT: personally, I press Escape when the map has finished loading and the files are verified. I don't use the "Join Game" button any more. That has minimized the number of CTD's for me, to maybe once per day or less.
As has been suggested, I also wait a couple of seconds ( maybe 10 or so ) before pressing escape.

I've had a 6 crash to the desktop (I presume thats CTD?) streak. Almost threw the freaking computer out the window, but a little reboot was all that O'Dave needed.
