Well I've been playing it (the Tuning-DEMO) for a couple weeks now - and this is my take on it:
1.) Same bugs as BF2 (red-blue-tag bug, missles going through stuff, map-glitches, etc.).
2.) Same exploitable game play + some new ones.
a.) One new exploit is lay-able spawn points by squad leaders.
b.) ... and pod-blasting across the map in 2 seconds (everybody is doing it).
3.) Sniping is basically useless (has been combined with spec-ops and called: RECON, the available machine gun unlock - SUCKS). The cross-hairs alway FLOAT up and down (new annoying game-mechanics/logic); it is hard to hit a moving target from a long distance when both your crosshairs are moving and the target is moving.
4.) In Titan mode you can move it (the Titan); on some servers this causes unbearable game-play, LAG, and allows map-glitch-ers to glitch into the Titan core.
5.) Over all coordinated team-play can eliminate a Tank, Mech-walker, APC in 1 second... an EMP (tank can't move anymore) combined with multiple rockets, ground static-av, Titan static-av - MEANS forget about raping with vehicles. . . but at the same time if one side is able to monopolize the vehicles - this equals TOTAL infantry rapage. Same ol, same ol... un-thought-out game-play issues when clans join and monopolize the vehicles - when other players are just joining a server for some fair-play FUN... this stupid issue has never been addressed and probably never will.
6.) The infantry weapons are nearly useless against a monopolizing vehicle hording raping clan members.
7.) Support and Medic-Assault (Assault and Medic are combined into 1 class) are the 2 best classes with weapons/unlocks - that kill fast (infantry that is).
8.) The Titan sometimes is destroyed very fast (and this is on a 32 player server, 64 might even be faster); and you basically get zero points for doing so.
9.) The point system logic is the same as BF2, except that everything is cut in half, 1 point for a Kill (not 2); 0.5 points for a Kill assist - which results in a ZERO point unless you get 2 kill assists or until another half point is accumulated.
10.) The speedy jeep-type vehicles blow up to easily upon collisions with objects; and it doesn’t seem entirely rational either; the ground (impact craters from explosions in the 3-D map mesh) can even cause it to explode from bumping about.
11.) You can get the DEMO-PAK (like C-4) unlock . . . and you still have to basically place it, which can cause it (often even) to fall on the ground and not stay on a tank. If you get to close to a tank even when at an apparent total stop in slight wobble in the 3-D mesh (of the tank) can kill you. . . this happens with all vehicles actually and it happens a lot actually.
12.) Some servers seem to crash almost every time at the end of a round.
13.) For players who like twitchy, super-fast, more arcade-style play - this is IT! The pod-hopping across the map makes for super-fast player movement. If you like to do a minimal amount strategy FORGET about it: it doesn’t exist. If you like sniping FORGET about it.
14.) Most people don’t like the commander-role anymore; the play is to fast air-strikes and supply crates hardly get used.
15.) You can only get a decent No. of Kills with the Talon, if your TEAM owns (monopolizes) the vehicles. . . else one EMP, two EMP. . . you fall out the sky and everybody fires missiles at you.
It is definitely BF2 at the core; of course (DUH, same game engine); all the same issues/bugs as before - plus a few new ones! Overall as negative, as it might seem that I am being about it, I actually like this MOD way better than Special Forces (SF), Armored Fury (AF) or Euro Forces (EF). I am only pointing out the issues that always seem to be there with a BF2 title. . . I will play this (buy this) even if they don’t resolve all the issues. The number of new unlocks, new maps, vehicles, effects, things to do, style of play, etc, is FUN and refreshing - not humdrum like SF, AF and EF. Until Quake Wars comes out I’ll have some FUN with this MOD. . . but when it (Quake Wars) comes out I have a feeling that it’s bye-bye to BF2 in all its glitchey-buggey incarnations.
