I'd like American citizens to post the reasons they reckon people from Europe (and elsewhere) are generally disgruntled with USA at the moment. We (the rest of the world) can then iron out any misconceptions you might have. Do not post irrational garbage and do not drag this into some kind of flame war or else I'll delete the thread. I merely wish to break down any understanding barriers that might interfere with rational debate elsewhere on this forum.
I think you only hate bush, but blame everything on us because he is leader. Then, you may not like what we try to do either, *cough* help our allies and keep ourselves safe *cough*.
oooooh this could get interesting!!
For genreally being ignorant about the rest of the world.
For being the only current superpower in the world.
For invading other countries withough U.N. approval.

Well personally, if I weren't an American I would probably hate America because our leaders are so... inadequate.. So I reason that if most of the world is like me, and don't like crummy leaders, then they probably wouldn't take too kindly to America. Our foreign policy isn't anything to brag about either though.
I think most of Europe thinks the US is war mongering since we took over Afghanistan and Iraq .
But I think most Europeans think ........................... oh wait - I don't care , never mind .

I think this guy perfectly demonstrates one irritation we have right here.jonnykill wrote:

Yep, that's what makes us say"supid fukin ignorant americans," because of dicks like him mocking a serious discussion., even though you are all not like that. In fact hardly any are.CameronPoe wrote:

I know fucking karate
It's a shame people judge a country by the way it's leader f***s things up totally! (can't really say i blame you though) It's not like we don't know he's an idiot, by now most of the country knows this, the smart ones tried to get him out of office last election and now the idiots are seeing the errors of their ways, too late.
and if you think his daddy's not really pulling the strings, your in denial!

I think they're mad at us for invading other countries under the guise of being honourable.
Every American with >1 brain cell knows the real reasons.
Every American with >1 brain cell knows the real reasons.
hey. im all for that and vice versa but its the opposite thing happening in my experience. A lot of posers are like " I hATE BUSH CAUSE MY FRIENDS DO SO I HATE AMERICA" and similiar things.CameronPoe wrote:

I think Europeans (and the rest of the world for that matter) resent the US mostly for our self-righteous arrogance and the "we don't care what the rest of the world thinks" attitude.
I'm an American and I've been to Thailand and Australia in the past two years and my experience has been like what someone said above. The people I met didn't hate Americans, they just weren't really happy about the Bush administration. I met really friendly people both places that went out of their way to make me comfortable in their countries. However, I did my best to be friendly and respectful to the people I met. I figure Americans that go overseas and act like everyone should treat them like royalty since they're American wouldn't be well recieved, but I wouldn't like people coming over here and acting like that. What do you guys that live outside of America who have met American tourists think about that?
with Bush acting that way what do we expect,... heck he used the US military to take care of his own personal vendetta...R3v0LuT!oN wrote:

I've had the same experiencekilgoretrout wrote:

I would say that covers about 60% of it, yes.R3v0LuT!oN wrote:

But do you think that extends to American people that you might meet in your country, or an abstract dislike of our foriegn policy?LaidBackNinja wrote:

A very tangible dislike of everything American, except classic cars and well-behaved tourists.kilgoretrout wrote:

Fair enough. And where are you from? I think that'll help in this post if we identify that.LaidBackNinja wrote:

The Netherlands. Although I must say opinions are definately divided over here. My opinion doesn't really represent my entire country.kilgoretrout wrote:

Good call on the 1st and 3rd points, as for the 2nd one, who cares - in fact that may be another reason right there, the fact Americans think people hate them because they're a superpower, la di da.Flaming_Maniac wrote:

The Bush administration plays a big part too, in fact the 3rd point is sort of covered just by the Bush administration.
Also, I'm pissed off about all the conflict in the middle east for quite a selfish reason, yup - oil (*edit* that's not the only reason I'm pissed off about it but that's a discussion for another day).
Do you Americans have any idea how much petrol costs in the UK now???
£1 a litre, that's less than a gallon (3.785 litres) costs in the US with all your subsidies and low taxes.

Well I have to say that it's our lack of ability of self control. From what I gather about the rest of the world is that majority of our "tourist" who go to your country are loud and abnioxious people who rub people the wrong way. But that is the minority of American's, I guess I'm saying that the minority of the American's that you have meet are probably trust fun babies who can't take care of themselves in social situations. But in all fairness I have run into similar problems with Euripeans over here, who are rather rude to the locals.
Oh and we do have poor leadership at the moment but that shall soon change.

It's because the USA has air conditioning galore everywhere you go. I was just in Europe a few weeks ago... it was fricking hot, and no matter where you went, there was never the delightful experience of stepping into an ice cold room.
I feel that if there is any hate/ disgruntlement towards the United States from the rest of the world that it spawns from the general ignorance and waste that is pervasive through out our society. Not having been able to leave the country recently, I do not have a good idea of how the world sees us, nor do I claim to, but if I had to guess, these are the two largest factors afecting my countries image. If you do live out side North America pelease respond to the question..."do you identify your country with ignorance and waist as I do with the U.S."

Also, I suggest reading America's Secret War, by George Freidman, for the real reasons for the war in the Middle East and the reasons for the Bush Administration's lies.
