I think the difference is that those events took place a few decades ago, 9/11 was just 5 years ago, a lot of people are still grieving their losses while hollywood cashes in.
It's disgraceful, really.
If you are referring to WTC the movie it is attempting to Honor the Courage of the firefighters, I would hardly call that disgraceful.

It doesn't look political for me.

Umm have you guy seen the trailer?

The History Channel had a good documentary about how the impact of the jet knocked the fireproofing off the steel causing it to get much hotter than it could take and it just collapsed.

WAAAAAAAAY too soon after 9/11 to see it for me. have no intention whatsoever of seeing it, especially since we are still fighting a war that was a direct cause of it (afghanistan). finish that up first then ill think about it.

I think that americans are very sensitive when it comes to 911, and therefore I don't believe that making money was main goal when they decided to start filming.

In my opinion cpt.fass1 is overdramatizing this bit too much. After all, world is full of movies that get ideas from other peoples grief. I don't recall anyone mentioning donations when Gandhi, Schindlers list or Amistad came out.

Movie can also have an educational aspect, and I believe that's what Oliver Stone has in mind.
I'm not overdramatizing it at all just wondering what your feelings are on this.

I'm actually very sure that Schindlers List donated alot of money to Jewish groups.

Platoon, Hamburger Hill, and Full Metal Jacket were more of political statements, I don't think they're made for sheer profit.  Probably a lot of it was for profit, but again I really doubt 100 % of the reason behind it was for profit.

But you have a point, I'm pretty sure Spielburg didn't profit at all off of Schindler's List.

I guess it depends on your point of view.  But it's not going to be like propaganda or anything, I'm sure, it's just going to reflect on the event, and the actors have some right to claim a little bit of profit.

I am in no way stating that they need to give up all profit I'm only saying that it changes my view a little  knowing that they are going to donate some of the profits. If it's only done for profit I find it to be crap.

10 percent of all sales are going to the charities. That could be a very large amount of money.

Or they could just make it 10% for 5 decades, or millenia...

THAT certainly would help.

its more then the weekend

the first 5 days of release...

which by the math should be around 1.7 million for the families...it did well today

although a side of me says lets move on. who care's if they give money. im sure alot of the families are jusy joyed about them making a movie about the brave men and women who served taht day. and giving respect. and helping people remeber again. but hey money is nice too!

I vote that Nicholas Cage plays the guy who 'saves the day'.

Will Ferrell to play GWB.

Morgan Freeman to play Colin Powell.

Halle Berry to play Condi.

Christopher Lee/Vincent Price to play Donald Rumsfeld.

Pee Wee Herman to play Paul Wolfowitz.

Donald Pleasance to play Dick Cheney.

Colm Meaney to play the head air traffic controller.

John Cusack to play the honest cop.

John Malkovich to play the head terrorist.

Tom Selleck to play Saddam Hussein.

Tom Cruise to play Osama Bin Laden.

My thoughts are why do we have to endure another movie, it looks like strategically placed to get us all riled up again for the war.
Sad thing is most are this stupid to fall into it.
The victims have made enough money off of their family's deaths, they should stop now before they become like Adams dad.

but those who are accidentally killed are accidentally killed, those of you who wish to VOLUNTEER to go to the services know that they could potentially go to a war zone know the responsibilities that go along with the nature of the beast,so why not compensate those unfortunate to have become victims of other peoples misguided beliefs and fanaticism's after all any of us could fall foul of these sudden atrocities.

Listening to the radio this morning, a guy called in who was a local city cop.  He said that he had the honor of going with other police officers and firefighters to see a private screening of WTC.  He described it as more of a tribute than anything.  He stated that their was very little Hollywood, and it was very emotional.  Just thought I'd add some input.

Adding to what you have said.

How fucking stupid do we as Americans get? The 9/11 victims have gotton more money then they know what to do with. Alot of the 9/11 victims abuse the money they got.  Some of these people got millions. WTF, do they really need that much to survive? The victims seem to think that they are something special and deserve something. IMO they shouldn't of gotton a damn thing. My father died and left us to fend for our selves . We didn't get millions.

On top of all this when a soldier dies, his family doesn't get a thing.

One of my friends said, very shortly after 9/11.  Hollywood is going to make a movie about this, I give it 3 years before they start writing the script.  He was right.

Personally, I think it is too soon.  Even as a tribute.  And 10% sure it could add up to millions, I think the other 90% should go to building a memorial for everyone who has died during 9/11 and the soldiers who died avenging their senseless deaths.

Let's get over this OMG TOO SOON complex. It really overdramatizes the whole situation and prevents people from moving on.

I saw World Trade Center... The entire story basically revolves around 2 NY Port Authority Cops Who survived the collapse to be pulled out of the rubble.  No Glitz or Glamour, just Human emotion.

Why?  What's different between 9/11 and any other movie topic?

My honest and real opion on this subject is this. Every day I look out the window of my apartment and I see the NYC skyline without the towers there to complete it. The towers were what made New York city look like a spectacular city, and there is still nothing up in there place. Now it's 2006 and we have a movie out about it but haven't even rebuilt from the attacks. So I think American's really need to get there prioties straight, I know the site is privatly own but it's still a fucking travisty that we are rebuilding other country's from bottom up and hollywood is quicker to the draw then our political system(because they do have alot of say in the building).

Yes that is true... Because without our towers one of the strongest economic centers in the world isn't here to support us and next you know we won't have water.

NYC skyline does look empty without it. I was lucky enough to have visited New York before 9/11 and they were spectacular. I returned post 9-11 and NYC has definitely lost its spark - to me those buildings symbolised the spirit of that city (I preferred them to SOL and Empire State).
