Ugh... The names 'Battlefield 2' and 'Commodore 64' should not be allowed together in the same message...

Only problem there is that without the C64 (and Amiga in later years) you likely wouldn't have BF2.  The C64 was the first really good gaming computer (not first console... Atari pwns that title).  When the PC was working with 4 colours and the PC speaker for audio I was playing side scrollers and arcade classics in all their glory.

I honestly don't think the PC, which for almost 20 years was considered primarily as a business machine, would be the gaming rig it is these days without the early pioneers like Commodore.  I'm sure the PC would have gotten there either way, by the early game machines definately helped.

Can't blame em. Although yes, there are alot of bugs. But doesn't every game have bugs?
Yes they do, but i challenge you to find a game as buggy as Battlefield 2......
CS and Wow, just to get the list started - and those two are on the "Buggier than BF2" list ...

How about BattleCruiser 3000... it would not even start once installed and required the download of a 65meg patch (pre-broadband era) to even get it to run

Or Star Wars Galaxies which to this day still does not have over half the functions that it was supposed to have at release

and the list goes on and on and on...

Battlefield 2 is a game, if you enjoy playing it then play it. If you have a problem with it then don't play it and move on to something else. Hell, Battlefield 1942 was getting a new patch every week for awhile and I never heard this level of whining about it.

Either enjoy the game or move on, there are hundreds of games on the market to be played

Am I missing something, what exactly about BF2 is more complex than Doom3, Half-Life 2, CS:Source or any other type of game? As far as I can see it is no more complex than the average game, physics wise HL2 has more breakable environments and better code - how often did you play hl2, kill someone and watch as the body got stuck in the scenery and span around? - happens in BF2 all the time. Shader wise Doom 3 and Half Life 2 have much more to offer than BF2, surfaces in BF2 don't look better, how about the shiny gold sacks of sand on Special Forces, very realistic or all the non descript walls and floors, hardly any bump mapping at all.

So thats physics and graphics wise, not as good, so if it is more complex that must be because it was coded by chimps. Feature wise, well wow team fortress and team fortress classic had several classes for you to play, and they were capture the flag too.

All that BF2 is better at is sucking up pc resources, I had to upgrade by 3500+ and 7800GTX machine to 2Gb RAM just to play the bloody game smoothly, when I played hl2 on a 9600XT smoothly with my gig of RAM.

As for all the hard work programmers have to put in to make games compatible, well can I remind you that this is the same for any bloody game. As has been mentioned so many times, its not like you have to use each pc config and consider every one, you use tools like directx that provide a bridge between the hardware and software to help you.

BF2 is still the only game I know that takes 10 minutes to 'optimise' itself for your computer every time you change graphics options, other games simply change a single line in their cfg to choose the appropriate rendering path. BF2 is still the only game that I can start, click to join a server, go and take a piss, come back and still have to wait for the map to load. Its only saving grace is that its actually quite a good game, just has a shitload of things wrong with it that can never be defended.
i second that.
the major problems looks like it has been severall programming teams doing the game and making code over code because they didn't know what has been done...

about what some guys said about the complexity... well, you capture flags... like in many other fps games... you have classes... like in many other fps games... you ride cars and planes... like some others games... hmmm... don't see the point of saying that... oh wait... i know what you guys ment... it's the only game that loads gigantic maps even if you play a 16 sized map... they must have thought "most of the things are not need but it's better to load them anyway"... don't give me the crap of the maps are big and that affect the load... it's the engine for that that doesn't work in the right way... the COD2 multiplayer is the fastest game to load that i recall... the maps load in a second and it's still "complex".

and if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ever comes out and have a good multiplayer... i'm off BF2... i only play it because it's the only acceptable online fps at the moment

You're joking right?

I've had more problems with BF2 than COD2, COD, either Medal of Honor PC version, and Flight Simulator 2004 combined.

EDIT: And how many games retain bugs over a year after release?
