Ok, heres the thing. Todays we brought some DVDs in Australia and my sister took my laptop and changed the region code so she could play her crap show. When I went to turn it back it said I can only change it 3 times.... So 1 to change it back to UK will leave 1. My question is, is there only a total of 3 changes? 3 and thats it? If so is there a way to get them back?

Any help is much appreciated

It's the same with DVD players for your TV. There are region codes, because the launch dates of a movie are not the same all over the world. An example: I have seen Blackhawk Down on a US DVD month before it was in the cinemas here in Switzerland. To protect their revenue, Universal and Co. build this region code thingy that is protected by law also.

This is a hardware lock, once you use up all the changes it is set forever. But you can get around it by changing the firmware of the hardware. You need the laptop model number and somewhere that allows you to dl the appropriate firmware for the DVD player of that model.

Most of these places warn that it could stop your DVD drive from working, I have never had a problem with flashing firmware, but there is a risk.

One way you can get around these problems is to strip the material from the DVD's and save them as viewable digital files. I know media companies would protest, but they should be satisfied if you don't distribute them around the net. Region codes are such a silly way to protect media.

Rip your films to copy them onto a DVDR using DVD Shrink or buy DVD Region Free.

You can flash most DVD-Roms with a region-free firmware so you don't have that hassle anymore. It depends on the Model of your DVD...

I use shrink but for some reason it does not always make it region free. But, just an fyi my 360 can play PAL and i live in the states.
