The M16 can't last forever... any ideas on what could replace it? I was convinced it was gonna be the XM8... but for some crazy reason they cancelled the project late last year.

I thought that was just a modification to an M4. The whole suit is wireless and has camera's moutned on top of an Colt M4.RDMC(2) wrote:

Could be true, I once watched this documentary on discovery, about future warfare, and I saw that rifle come along, didn't know which one is was, looked pretty cool thoughBigmacK192 wrote:

Huzzah for the Discovery Channel.
The OICW/M29 is a bit overkill.. not every soldier needs a semi-auto grenade launcher... Also from what I've heard these rifles are extremely heavy. Although I loved the OICW in Ghost Recon.ﻍﻏﺱﺖﻇﻸﮚ wrote:
Well xm8 isnt exactly dead in the water, its true its suspended indefinately but whenever h&k submit a competiton worthy xm8 that can outdo the scar system it could reapear. However even before it was cancelled the oicw and the xm29 were to be th "real" future. the xm8 was just supposed to be used along with the m16a2 and unless anything changes it will be the xm29 and m16's

Easy switch. Magazine's are already in use. Lighter than an M16A2, and has a more effective range. Win.
Seems this can't be the next rifle for US.Wikipedia wrote:

I posted that in my edit. I was reading about another gun on a different website.BigmacK192 wrote:
There isnt a story, because it isn't in development. It was discontinued. But if it survived, it would be a better assault rifle choice for the US military.
