The game code has to be writen to support it. Looks like bf2 dosn't support it.

some one mentions before (don't know if it was here or somewhere else) that the texture filtering options is AF. not sure though but if thats set to high and you try to force AF with other software with no diff that may be why

bf2 doesnt support AF that i know of.. i just leave it off on my profiles for bf

most games use it, and do look nicer. but the image quality isnt worlds better. u honestly wont really notice a diffence between 16x or 2x AF.

the image is a bit cleaner though

turn on Multisampling and gamma aliasing though. it helps in bf2

Ingame Texture Filtering is Anisotropic Filtering. The high setting equals 4x Filtering.

And there's for sure a difference if you use it.

texture filtering makes textures look crisper at distance, if you dont notice a difference with it on/off you have visual imparement issues
bf2 does not utilize AF thru the forced mode, only while having texture filtering set to max in-game will you have it on
it's not a big performance hit either

AA > AF in terms of gfx quality...

The Gamer's Graphics & Display Settings Guide.  Lot of useful tweakguides on that site as well.
