Pretty good news for prospective AMD buyers.

With the release of Intel's new Conroe chip iminent, AMD have announced price cuts for nearly all of it's processors (for example the X2 5000+ is dropping from $642 to $282) nothing to scoff at eh?

Agreed, but I was thinking of all the people who will be unable/unwilling to recognize the superior performance of Conroe for another 8 - 12 months and will unfortunately be purchasing an AMD chip due to their ignorance/stubborness.

no it didnt... its a codename for the cpu... like all cpu cores they are codenamed like brisbane, san diego, venice. doesnt mean it was made there, some conroe cores are made in haifa israel...

that was old test.... and that was engineering sample of the conroe... the latest ones are much better

Always been an AMD fan.

Overclockers have the 4600+ RETAIL for just 175 quid, and the 4400 OEM is 250, and the 4800 is 450! I am getting one. S939.

I've been an AMD fan myself from waaaay back. Mind you those results do look pretty damn promising for Intel. There seems to be quite the buzz about those procs. The drastic price drop might be an indication that AMD might be a bit worried
