What would you go for, and do you have any other suggestions? It must be the ownage pc but can max up to 900 pounds.. either way I would like to have 4gb ram in it, I work with editting programs alot, and a fast procesor, also a good videocard for bf2, want to run everything on high with a constant 50 fps >

Compared to AMD's Athlon 64 X2 the situation gets a lot more competitive, but AMD still doesn't stand a chance. The Core 2 Extreme X6800, Core 2 Duo E6700 and E6600 were pretty consistently in the top 3 or 4 spots in each benchmark, with the E6600 offering better performance than AMD's FX-62 flagship in the vast majority of benchmarks. Another way of looking at it is that Intel's Core 2 Duo E6600 is effectively a $316 FX-62, which doesn't sound bad at all.

I'd be looking very closely at these new Intel chips if I were you. Even if it means saving a bit longer to pull it off.

God i cant wait till AMD pulls out another "Godlike" Chip down with intel.
You gotta think that AMD Ruled the computer world with its outstanding gaming Expericance and its awsome performance with other things.

I agree that I'd look at intel, but given the choices presented, I'd go with Jam3z's rig w/ the mod of having 2GB RAM. His quote also included critical elements I didn't see in yours (CPU cooling, PSU)

EDIT: And optical drives. I suppose that case may come with a PSU, but I can't stress how much I recommend against using a PSU that comes with a case.

Well, I'd ask what those coolers are (I recommend a liquid solution, actually. Thermaltake's Bigwater series is stellar) and reinforce in the highest possible terms to NOT use that PSU. Not only is it a generic case PSU, but at least 100W lower than what you should be looking at for a system like this. I'd recommend 500W or higher.

4GB at this point is exorbitant, spend the money on another aspect of your PC. I see case coolers in your list, and even a GPU cooler, but no CPU cooler. Is it your intent to use a stock cooler? Something else I would recommend against. Why are you dead set against getting a PSU?

All it has over the other is a bit faster of a CPU with AM2's ddr2 speed ram. Sure it will be faster, but not that much.

I haven't built an AM2 yet, and I'm not debating a conroe chip. My question for you... can get opteron CPUs where you are?
I know monarch sells them and the prices have been dropping, but I don't know if they ship over the atlantic. For $220ish US you can get an opteron 165 that when mounted on a good motherboard will more than likely overclock up to FX-60 ratings.

Get the fasted AMD X2 you can afford. The rest of the system is up to personal preference. I like ATI cards over nVida cards. Other like nVidia over ATI. Get the best video card from the manufacturer that you like best that you can afford. I would get atleast 2 GB of Ram that can be used in Dual Channel.

I think your on crack, a much faster AM2 processor, ALOT faster RAM, also can upgrade in the future as its on the AM2, better motherboard, better HDD.

Its a server based chip

Well it obvioulsy would own the other machine, it has a faster CPU, DDR2 RAM, room to upgrade, can add another graphics card in it later.

Cant buy the optrons that overclock that fare here and we havnt had any for over 9months, elmo cant get them where he lives either, but if you can still buy one then i would.

Over here we have been told by various companies and by AMD that the plant that makes the FX chips no longer make the optron chips.

Bassicly the same plant/factory that makes the FX chips used to make to optron chips aswell, AMD obvioulsy relised that people where buying these optrons and overclocking them to FX speeds so they stopped making them there and also added a new series of crap to there chip arcitexture so that you could not run that higher voltage through them to overclock them to FX speeds.

But hey if you still think you can do it, try it.

speed is deceptive. Conroe is built on efficiency. Speed without efficiency is more than wasted. Your most recent specs look good. Good addition of the PSU. I would recommend an Intel/nvidia combo, but that is simply my recommendation. Your system as stated would rock. Beyond that, it's just personal opinion as far as AMD/Intel (except conroe) and nvidia/ATI

Unless you are looking at the e6600 or e6400 conroe, I would suggest going with a comparable amd chip. keep in mind that the conroe (core duo) chips from intel are going to be in short supply for a month or two and may be subject to price gouging by retailers until sufficient quantities are available. For the time being the higher end conroe chips may blow out your budget
