Welcome to a third in what I hope will be a series of connected posts proposing improvements and changes to what bf2 could be. I call it BF2 squared, or just BF4. Feel free to repost anywhere you like, just please give me and BF2S some credit. I hope you are not all getting bored yet.

Well, I am not sure how interested in maps people will be. I just have to get this out of the way before I can get to the vehicle section. First and foremost is that BF2, SF, EF, and AF need to all be combined into a signle pack. Booster packs should create additional maps, and maybe. MAYBE another army or two to choose.
Second, There has to be maps available for everyone. You want to pull in and keep as many players as possible, then give them variety. Infantry only maps. No aircraft maps. Ground vehicle and chopper only. Full vehicle maps. Armored speciality maps. Plane specialty maps. At best, about 4 maps of each catagory released with the game. If you want booster packs, give us a new pair of maps every six months or so. You can even let players submit their mod maps as ideas, choose what you like best, clean it up, and release it in the pack. And the maps should be in 16, 32, 64, and 128 player sizes.
Yes, 128 players. Which is my next suggestion. It will be possible, pretty soon, most likely, so why not start planning now? Increase the map size and number of flags by about 50% (11 instead of 7). that gives a lot more area for real dogfighting for the planes, allows more cruising range for armor, gets more and more people into the battle.
Other changes. First, a new fixed ground defense weapon (well, it will make it into a couple vehicles too), the Mark 19 Mod 4 40mm machine gun. Also known as a fully automatic grenade launcher. Not with an unlimited ammo like the current MGs, but fires a string of 12 grenades, then an 8 second reload. The GD version would have unlimited reloads. That would make it a bit more effective, and worth being planted in one place. The warhead would be the same as an M203 grenade.
Next, the carrier has to be bigger, and it has to MOVE. There needs to be a third spawn point forward of the island, and 2 more aircraft spawn points forward. There should also be a way for the commander to move the entire ship. I am not saying allow it to beach, but to keep it from being a completely static target. It also needs more area to pack in the new commanders assets that I will discuss later.
Also, on beach assault missions, the artillery should be on support ships. Each support ship will have its own spawn point, AA turret (Essex style) 2 artillery cannons (manned, will hear more about it in the vehicle section), a helicopter pad, and a RIB to allow people to get to shore.

EDIT: Sorry I was in a hurry and left this part out. I would also like to see intermediate spawn points. Due to the sizes of the maps I want. The intermediate spawn point would be between to friendly flags. THat means that if one of the flags was lost, that intermediate spawn point would dissapear as well. The goal of this is to help atempt to get manpower to defend a flag without having them all appear at the attacked flag for a spawnkilling, or spawn too far away to do any good.

Next comes the REALLY big changes. As I see it, there will be 4 armies in BF4: US, MEC, PLA, and EU. Allow the server to choose what army to play on any map. The armies should be equal in power, but not in specialities, so replacing one army should make it a new game again. And you should be able to switch sides. How about a Wake Island map with the US on the island and the PLA on the ship? How about the PLA on the island with the MEC, or the EU on the ship? How about a US/EU fight? Is the US really doomed in the Sharqi Penninsula? Prove it and put the MEC in the TV station and let the US have the outside bases. It will allow an incredible amount of variety for the map, even on 24/7 map servers. It will also allow play on maps if the server simply does not like a particular army.
And, since we are giving the server huge options anyway, allow the server to allow or dissalow vehicle types. The server will not be able to add jets to a infantry only map, but WILL be able to ban helicopters from a helicopter and ground vehicle map if they want. This allows ANY map to be infantry only, if the server wants it that way. Let the servers choose.
Well, those are my current ideas for maps. Let me know how you like them, and I hope to be posting the vehicle thread in about 12 hours. it will be a LONG thread. After vehicles, it will be Commander's Assets.
