just been offered an opteron 146 socket 939 with a good stepping for hundred quid,is it worth upgrading and is it worth the price.Am i best off waiting for a decent dual core.I am gonna upgrade in an hour or two unless i'm told not to,i just don't know what to do,i'm a beginner.
Get conroe. But if you have to get one of those go with the opteron.
I would go for it. Opterons overclock very nicely (if you're into that).
make sure your motherboard support any cpu u get..

I had a 146 that ran at 2.9Ghz and I'll tell you I'm 100% sure it was a fabulous gaming CPU. I was running it with a 7800gt and there was only 1 time loading a new map in BF2 that someone might have loaded faster. I'm not sure since I got so used to being the only one for at least 5 to 10 seconds that I was shocked to see someone else run by me when I stopped a couple seconds after spawning to create a new squad.
My winnie was running 2.4 (OC'd),i used to be first in the maps most of the time on bf2 with that so i hope this opty is even better, my mate had it running 2.8 stable but i'm just gonna leave it at 2.6,i'm happy with that.
