Not sure if this is right topic to post in, but here goes:

I'm at a loss here so any help is appreciated.

I can connect into a game just fine, but after about 10 seconds (consistently after 10 seconds) of game play the game locks up, and even if I CTRL+ALT+DEL and try to end task, Windows can't close Battlefield, eventually I have to do a hard restart (restart button on case)... even if I force a shut down in Task Manager, the machine won't restart.

What I'm really confused about is that it seemingly started happening randomly.  I've had this issue for the past 2 weeks, and the only thing I've done recently is put in a second hard drive, but I highly doubt that's the issue and not entirely sure that installing the hard drive is when the problem started.  I've been running BF2 since Oct last year with no problems, and it's not like this started happening after I installed the recent patch because I was playing fine for a few weeks after installing latest patch.

If I check Event Viewer, I have an error in the Application log that roughly coincides with my crashing that relates to the "Apache Service" (Event ID 3299); this is currently my only lead.  The description is as follows:

The Apache service named  reported the following error:
>>> [Tue Jun 20 19:06:49 2006] [notice] Disabled use of AcceptEx() WinSock2 API     .

System specs are as follows:
AMD64 3000+
1GB RAM
6600GT

Its your graphics card over heating, has to be. Either that or a memory problem but if its only happening when your playing a game, its your graphics card.

Try making sure its fully slotted in, maybe you losened it when you added the new hard drive.
If that doesnt work, you could try leaving the case open with a fan pointed inside and see does this stop the crashing, if it does then you know the cause, a solution could be harder come by :\

(I dont think that Apache crash has anything to do with it.)

Thanks for the prompt response.

I think you're right about apache service, I did a search in Event Viewer for apache service and see the same recurring error going back to 2005 lol...

Not sure on the graphics card theory because my temp never reaches higher than 44 C, which should be normal and acceptable.

For anyone new looking at this, Apache Service has nothing to do with this.  After searching on the Internet, the error has something to do with ports being blocked or something or another, but I see this error in Event Viewer when I've ran BF2 fine in the past so this error is normal.

i dont this think either of these are correct.

its 1.3, simple as that. mine does it too since that patch and never did before. just blame it all on 1.3

As much as I'd like to agree with that, fairly certain it's not the patch.

I was just playing CS:S for a solid 45 minutes with no issues at all... highest I saw the temp was 79 C (the 40-some odd temp I mentioned above was idle while 79 appears to be full load).  Not sure I could check temp easily in BF2 as it doesn't like ALT+TAB'ing out (CS:S is fairly ALT+TAB friendly I guess).  Thus far, I'm led to believe it has something to do with just BF2... although I suppose you could make the argument that it still could be graphics card-heat related saying that BF2 puts more of a load on card vs CS:S thus exerting more heat... I don't know... all's I know is that it sucks I can't play BF2 lol.

In the last few days bf2 has been freezing on-line, mid game. I cannot escape or ctrl alt del. I have to restart the computer. The temp on the graphics card is fine. When I say its freezing, I mean the image freezes and whatever sounds were happening at that time go into a high speed repetitive cycle. Does anyone have any idea how to sort this, thanks JH.
